The thing that gets me about modern feminism is that they don’t seem to have their priorities in order. If a guy smiles at a girl on a bus, this is sexual harassment.
The problem is that Saudi Arabia exists. There is a country in the world where women are not allowed to drive or leave the house without a male relative. They must completely cover themselves in public. They are unable to appear in court without 2 males to give their permission, and 4 more to swear that the first 2 know the female. The marriage contract is officially between the husband-to-be and the father of the bride. Legally possession of the women passes from the father to the husband. Female school children are allowed to burn to death because they are not properly dressed to exit their burning school. Rape victims are routinely punished for allowing themselves to be raped.
Protest about someone smiling at another human being while these conditions exist is like someone standing up during the worst years of the transatlantic slave trade and saying “I think we should rename blackberries because it may be offensive to African Americans.” (The Lonely Libertarian)
And don’t forget, this country is our staunchest ally in our fight in the Middle East against terrorists who—if they took control—might turn back women’s rights to the seventh century.
