Donald Trump is causing extreme discomfort among the purveyors of politics as usual. From Monty Pelerin on a guest post at theburningplatform.com:
A Common Enemy
Nothing unites enemies more than a common foe who threatens harm to both. The Bloods and Crips are street gangs at war with each other, literally to the death. Merely being a member of the rival gang is reason enough to have your actuarial table altered. Even they unite when their joint existence is threatened. The most recent case was in Baltimore, although there are numerous other examples in other cities.
Our national version of the Bloods and Crips — Democrats and Republicans — are joining forces against their common enemy, Donald Trump. Prior to his foray into politics, few would think of Trump as a great uniter. He doesn’t act like one, nor does he care to. However, he is a common threat to the plunder and pillage that both political parties have inflicted on the country. In that sense, they will unite against him. The media is also a major player in this game with interests in siding against Trump. David Limbaugh describes the current state of affairs:
The professional hand-wringers are freaking out over Donald Trump’s straight talk while displaying abysmal indifference to the deserved targets of Trump’s charges. The United States is incinerating, but all they can think about is Trump’s heated rhetoric.
Trump is resonating because, as a presidential candidate, he is giving public voice to many of the concerns that have Americans beside themselves.
Make no mistake about this. Regardless of what you may feel about The Donald, he scares the hell out of anyone who wants to maintain the status quo.
The Problem
Trump is a huge problem for the Republicans, Democrats and the media. He is saying, in his over-the-top braggadocious style, much of what ordinary Americans are feeling and wanting to be said.
Americans may not agree on the solutions, but they overwhelmingly agree that the country is going in the wrong direction. Voters want things to change but no one in the political class is willing to admit that what passes for current wisdom is nothing but Washington doublespeak. No one is willing to risk offending someone for fear that they jeopardize their cushy income stream that results not from ability but political connection. Like the modern-day Mafia, enriching themselves at the expense of hard-working Americans, they prefer to remain in the background never taking a stand on anything. All the while they become richer at the expense of productive citizens.
Trump is not a politician. He doesn’t need political office to become rich. He achieved that status without politics. How serious he truly is may be in question, but the impact he is having is not. He is this election cycle’s Howard Beale. (Watch Howard Beale’s speech and see whether it applies to today’s conditions, the way you feel and what attracts folks to Trump.) He breaks all the protocol of politics and he scares the hell out of the professional politicians.
Neither political party has been willing to address the issues head-on and in a no-nonsense fashion. Trump is doing so, whether you like his positions or bombast or not. He resonates with many because there is seemingly no other alternative to fixing the country. The public knows that they will only get more of the same from the political class.
Whether Trump would make a good president or not is moot. Given recent experiences with elections selecting someone by lottery might not be worse than those we elect.
I have no interest in voting for Trump (or anyone else for that matter). I do like what Trump is doing because he is rocking a boat that needs rocking or even sinking. Watch the ruling class unite against his threat. Listen to the squealing pigs whose preferred place at the trough is being threatened. That is music to my ears!
Trump the pigs!
