I got this out of a book of quotes that does not say when Mr. Vidal wrote this. However, I figure that whenever he wrote it, with the long-term underperformance of economy and the increasingly concentration of wealth, the percentage of people at the top of the manure pile is smaller now than whenever this quote was written.
