From an unnamed top New Hampshire Republican, counseling Jeb Bush on how to handle Donald Trump in the upcoming Republican debate:
“The old maxim applies: Never wrestle with a pig,” counseled a New Hampshire Republican. “You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it.”
Those “top” Republicans just keep shooting themselves in the foot. One thing these dunderheads don’t seem to realize is that a lot of Republicans are thoroughly disgusted with them and the candidates they back, an assemblage of colorless, poll- and focus group-driven teachers pets whose differences cannot be detected with an electron microscope. More foreign interventions, higher defense budgets, more domestic surveillance, no agreement with Iran, Persians bad, Russkies bad, Chinese bad, Muslims bad except Saudi and Gulf State Muslims because they’re rich and have lots of oil and buy lots of US arms, Israel good, the half of Ukraine that likes us good, Wall Street good, cheap immigrant labor good, promise to lower taxes, promise deregulation, mumble something about entitlement reform, show them your 10 or 20 year plan with cuts and balanced budgets 10 or 20 years down the road and on to the next question. All said in perfectly modulated tones, with only the occasional sharp intonation designed to let their audiences know its time to clap and cheer. They tried it with Mitt Romney and it didn’t work, and now this New Hampshire whiz calls the only candidate any Republican who is worth less than $10 million is excited about “a pig.” If dishwater bland Jeb Bush doesn’t wrestle with the pig, he may well find the pig even farther ahead in the polls, especially if the pig manages to squeal something his Republican “betters” disdain but that turns on his porcine fans.
