The one I remember: “I’m the straw that stirs the drink.” The “drink” referred to the “city”, but I don’t remember if it was NYC or not.
Mom and Dad had season tickets to the California Angels owned by Gene Autrey. Autrey loved old school baseball guys with outsized personalities, maybe beyond their prime and who became available such as Reggie Jackson. Mom and Dad sat front row right behind the Angels on deck circle and Jackson would come over and flirt with my mom. He was charismatic as hell and knew it so the husbands including my Dad were only flattered not angered by Mr October’s brash behavior.
