COVID-19 in Racial and Ethnic Minority Groups – “Long-standing systemic health and social inequities have put some members of racial and ethnic minority groups at increased risk of getting COVID-19 or experiencing severe illness, regardless of age. Among some racial and ethnic minority groups, including non-Hispanic black persons, Hispanics and Latinos, and American Indians/Alaska Natives, evidence points to higher rates of hospitalization or death from COVID-19 than among non-Hispanic white persons. As of June 12, 2020, age-adjusted hospitalization rates are highest among non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native and non-Hispanic black persons, followed by Hispanic or Latino persons. Non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native persons have a rate approximately 5 times that of non-Hispanic white persons, non-Hispanic black persons have a rate approximately 5 times that of non-Hispanic white persons, Hispanic or Latino persons have a rate approximately 4 times that of non-Hispanic white persons.” – CDC (Updated June 25, 2020)

 – HAPPENED TO HEAR THIS ON CNN OF ALL PLACES.  SO ROUGHLY SPEAKING LOOKING AT THE FIGURES BELOW FROM THE CDC:

648.5 TOTAL HOSPITALIZATIONS PER 100,000    = .648%

608.4 NON-WHITE HOSPITALIZATIONS PER 100,000    =  .608%

40.1 WHITE HOSPITALIZATIONS PER 100,000  = .0401%

 

WE ARE SHUTTING DOWN THE COUNTRY FOR THIS, FOR THESE PERCENTAGES? 

WHAT I GATHER FROM THIS, IS THAT EXTRA PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN IN BIGGER CITIES WHERE THE VAST PROPORTION OF MINORITIES LIVE. RURAL AMERICA, FORGET IT. MORE PEOPLE PROBABLY GO TO THE HOSPITAL FOR BROKEN BONES THAN THESE NUMBERS INDICATE. WHY ISN’T THE MEDIA ALL OVER THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks. Actually CNN wasn’t pointing out the small percentages. Their main point was that African Americans get the virus 5x as much as White Americans. Actually American Indians appear to the highest rate. Although, that was never mentioned. Doesn’t play into the race game.

    Thanks Robert for linking!!! Thought these figures were pretty significant. if you look at the hospitalization figures from the CDC, it’s hard to believe any hospital was overwhelmed. The Watchman
