A moving story about what Palestinians lost when Israel took over their homeland, from L. Reichard White at lewrockwell.com:
Now let me tell you a little about me, and a true story that took place when I was living in the UAE, United Arab Emirates.
I was in my twenties, and had little experience of the World. I was born in America and lived there all of my life, until I married.
I then lived in England, Holland and Australia until we arrived in the UAE. I worked for the American Embassy there in a diplomatic capacity.
One day I went to the English Club.
Three men were sitting at a table next to mine, having a very intelligent and interesting conversation. I was alone and eavesdropping.
They must have noticed, because they invited me to join them. At one point I told them that I was an American, and I asked them what their Nationalities were. They answered that they were Palestinian.
When I learned that, everything about me changed. My posture changed. My participation changed. I was no longer laughing, smiling or enjoying contributing.
These men could not help but notice my drastic changes and asked me, “Why?” “What has happened?”
I thought for a moment and then I decided to just grab the bull by the horns, and I gave them the reason. I told them that I was afraid of them.
They were aghast. They were confused.
