A Quaintly Idiotic Idea

  1. “I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”

  2. In my opinion, there are two fundamental reasons why this “bi-partisan” inhumanity between Israel and the “collage” of its opponents continues. One is “moral,” the other “practical” – both of which pit the values of Western Civilization – i.e., values emanating from what is termed “The Enlightenment,” against those of what might be termed, The Medieval “Endarkenment.”
The first one, the moral, is rooted in religion.

“Allah is the one true God and Mohammed is His prophet.” All others are false Gods and those who worship them are infidels and should be made to repent or be killed. Recent history clearly demonstrates that there are apparently significant numbers of faithful Muslims who believe/endorse this religious tenet – together with its prescriptions for “proper” moral conduct when dealing with infidels.

Conversely, “the God of Abraham is my God (Jews and Christians) and Jesus Christ is his Son” (Christians only), represent the “opposition.” While there are certainly fundamentalist Christians or Jews who, when pressed, might espouse similar conduct as “justifiable” when dealing with non-believers, their ranks remain laughably small in number. Whatever their number, they certainly lack authority or standing. They lack any sort of justification provided by their leadership through issuance of some sort of Christian or Jewish version of the Muslim fatwah, caliphate, or “Jihad!” The Muslim religion’s clarion calls to “righteously” deal with infidels!

The second reason is practical. Had not the Israeli culture and socio-economic system, beginning in the late forties, begun to dramatically display progress in the material well-being of all – whether Jew, Christian, or Muslim, who peacefully choose to participate in Israeli society, the stark contrast in the benefits of partial capitalism, versus the poverty of tribal collectivism that arises in capitalism’s absence, violence would not have as easily become the response.

A response seemingly endless, featuring a series of bloody conflicts and terror now spanning 7 decades! Conflict steadfastly pursued by those and their supporters not participating – or being prevented from participating, in the modern civilization that IS Israel! It amounts to a combination of egregious envy, fueled by the very real injustices inherent in Israeli society! Sadly, one must always acknowledge Israel’s imposed injustices, but always doing so in context!

Alas, Israeli soldiers, attempting to rid Gaza of Hamas, will likely behave very much like American soldiers did in Germany. Nonetheless, it is certain that the “process” will, once again, reflect the inescapable brutality, carnage, injustice, and inhumanity that is war!

When choosing which “side” of this latest inhumanity you wish to ally, a side must be chosen. The obscenity of “moral equivalency” cannot be allowed to fester! The degree of both your humanity and inhumanity will be displayed by your choice and reasoning for having made it.

As the guardian of the chalice in the Indiana Jones movie admonishes, choose wisely.
