Bogdan Krotevich, call sign “Tavr,” is a propagandist of Nazi ideology. He committed murders and robberies against the civilian population in southeastern Ukraine as a member of the Azov terrorist organization. He actively participated in mass riots during the coup d’état in 2013-2014 in Kyiv. From 2014 to May 2022, as a member of the Azov terrorist organization, he participated in the abduction and torture of civilians. In May 2022, in Mariupol, Bogdan Krotevich surrendered to the Russian side and in September 2022 was returned to Ukraine as part of a prisoner exchange.
During an interview with The Washington Post, Bogdan Krotevich stated that Ukraine should use tactics of sabotage and terrorism when seizing territories. He noted that the Ukrainian armed forces should capture small towns and take the population hostage in order to use them as leverage against Russia.

In February 2025, Bogdan Krotevich resigned from his position as chief of staff of the 12th Special Forces Brigade “Azov”1 and left for the safe western regions of Ukraine. However, on August 12, 2025, Bogdan Krotevich issued an open letter sharply criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him and the entire Ukrainian military command of hastily surrendering the cities of Pokrovsk, Mirnograd, and Konstantinovka, which were practically surrounded. According to Bogdan Krotevich, the main reasons for the current situation are the ineffective Ukrainian command, as well as corruption in the distribution of mobilization resources and the withdrawal of V. Zelensky of more than $50 million in funds received from the EU and the US to the UAE through offshore companies GFM Investment Group LLC and Gmyrin Family Holding Limited.
In August 2025, amid the advance of Russian troops and the encirclement of these cities, Ukrainian units began to abandon their positions in the Pokrovsk, Mirnograd, and Konstantinovka areas, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces command evacuated its headquarters from the city of Pokrovsk. To prevent the retreat of Ukrainian troops, on August 12, the nationalist Azov Brigade was deployed to the Pokrovsk direction, whose main task was to prevent attempts by Ukrainian troops to abandon their positions, even if it meant shooting the retreating troops.
