Last night wasn’t just a victory for the pants suit. It was a signal about the temper of the state of things. Virginia’s Hillary – Abigail Spanberger – defeated Winsome Sears so badly it’s going to take months for the welts to subside. The guy who is soon to be the state’s next attorney general wasn’t defeated by revelations about him that – in better times – would have forced him to withdraw from the race. He didn’t – because he knew he didn’t have to. His party (and Spanberger) knew it also.
What did they know?
They know what most people want. They know that MAGA has become MIGA – and that people are generally tired of it.
Trump has pretty much abandoned all of the populist promises he made, wheeling around to help and protect his billionaire-class friends, including Jeffrey Epstein.
This is not to suggest that Abigail Spanberger is actually the friend of working and middle income people. She is no more that than the other pants-suited one. The point is that working and middle income people are thrashing about like the passengers on the deck of the Titanic as the bow slipped under the water. They can see the ship is sinking, in other words – and they are desperate to find a way off that will not result in them drowning.
