When power is your only objective, then things like integrity, wisdom, and honesty fall by the wayside. From T.L. Davis at tldavis.substack.com:

On a day that commemorates 9/11 and the day after Charlie Kirk was gunned down in Utah, I don’t have a lot to say on either occasion. First of all, no one even knows exactly what happened on 9/11, not who did it, or why. Was it planted explosives, jets flying into buildings or holograms of jets. Who benefitted from it and how? This is the problem with a lot of American history since the bankers took over in 1871. What are the real interests involved? How do they profit? Can they profit from the destruction of their own buildings? Yes, they can. That fact distorts all of perceivable reality. Can politicians benefit from the destruction and betrayal of their own people? Yes, apparently they can, because that’s all they seem to do these days.
The bigger issue all around is the truth. Without truth, there is no fact. Without facts there can be no reality. These are the chains that bind all rational thought and breaking them allows for the manipulation of the truth and of facts and therefore reality.
I just had a long discussion with someone I consider middle of the road on a lot of issues. It took a long time to discover where he sat politically. But, in just that amount of time, I realized we were both poking and prodding along ideological threads. Neither one of us were willing to commit ourselves to one position or another, because this was business, not a social call.
