The Constitution Has Already Been Terminated, by John and Nisha Whitehead

You would be hard pressed to find a clause in the Constitution that’s consistently observed. From John and Nisha Whitehead at

“That was when they suspended the Constitution. They said it would be temporary.”—Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale

If there is one point on which there should be no political parsing, no legal jockeying, and no disagreement, it is this: for anyone to advocate terminating or suspending the Constitution is tantamount to a declaration of war against the founding principles of our representative government and the rule of law.

Then again, one could well make the case that the Constitution has already been terminated after years on life support, given the extent to which the safeguards enshrined in the Bill of Rights—adopted 231 years ago as a means of protecting the people against government overreach and abuse—have been steadily chipped away at, undermined, eroded, whittled down, and generally discarded with the support of Congress, the White House, and the courts.

Consider for yourself.

We are in the grip of martial law. We have what the founders feared most: a “standing” or permanent army on American soil. This de facto standing army is made up of weaponized, militarized domestic police forces which look like, dress like, and act like the military; are armed with guns, ammunition and military-style equipment; are authorized to make arrests; and are trained in military tactics.

We are in the government’s crosshairs. The U.S. government continues to act as judge, jury and executioner over a populace that have been pre-judged and found guilty, stripped of their rights, and left to suffer at the hands of government agents trained to respond with the utmost degree of violence. Consequently, we are at the mercy of law enforcement officers who have almost absolute discretion to decide who is a threat, what constitutes resistance, and how harshly they can deal with the citizens they were appointed to “serve and protect.” With alarming regularity, unarmed men, women, children and even pets are being gunned down by the government’s standing army of militarized police who shoot first and ask questions later.

  1. I recognized the direction of the country fifty-five years ago and thought resistance could win the day. Liberty, the right to make free choices seemed so simple and would be an irresistible choice if people just understood. The case for freedom just needed to be presented correctly and surely most would turn to liberty.
Not only have I watched it continue to grow ever worse I have through study and learning from others come to realize this did not start recently. It was the direction chosen by leaders from the beginning. The first president to violate the constitution when it benefited him was…the first president. He wrote a great epistle on why gold and silver were to be the only recognized money because it gave individuals the ability to resist rule and made the government accountable. Then when he was instructed by one of his apparatchiks how fiat currency could debase the value of money and he could profit from it he authorized the first central bank, authorized direct taxes (which were illegal) to pay the debt that followed, and threatened those who resisted or complained (the right to free speech) and organized protests (the right to assemble) moved to have them arrested and hanged. Some were arrested and the courts that were willing to authorize imprisonment were reluctant to carry out any executions.
Jefferson got rid of the central bank, then it was re-instated anew with the next president, Andrew Jackson got rid of it, then it was re-instated again. It has varied iterations but is has nearly always been part of the scheme of control.
I know that the ‘patriotic’ will first give in to emotion rather than reason, for those who helped start the country are considered beyond temptation and noble and honest to a fault. They fail to fail to realize that when there is a position of power (control over others) it always attracts the self indulgent, narcissists, megalomaniacs, and every other kind of psychopath.
I do not know how to get people past their cognitive dissonance. They recognize the wrong and the evil done by the party they did not vote for and excuse and lay blame elsewhere when their own fail. I told my communist daughter that Obama would never stop the war as he promised, she replied that she felt bad about that he didn’t but it wasn’t his fault he couldn’t stop it.
When my ‘conservative’ friends say that the lock down was a terrible mistake and we need Trump back to right the situation. I tell them that he signed the executive order that brought about the lock down on March 13, 2020. It authorized the use of the Model State Emergency Health Powers Act and gave each state billions of dollars to enforce it. When some people complained Trump pretended to be on their side and said some governors were going too far. If he thought that was true all he had to do was sign an Executive order to rescind it, he didn’t. Few people I challenge even look up this act, those who do said it wasn’t Trump’s fault, he must have followed faulty advice. Whether incompetent or complicit the country still followed orders and he never changed what he had done. People wore masks, they ostracized and reported any who didn’t, over 75% got the shots, the follow up shots.
What does all of this tell me. There is little hope for resistance by the masses. It is true, if they resisted they couldn’t be controlled. They didn’t.
Voting is meaningless. Even if a statesman who valued and cherished liberty could be found he could not prevail against the numbers that are against him, not only in the government, but the people have no will.
It would be best to discover a method for living in parallel and unrecognized by those who will destroy any who live by the moral code of free agency and liberty.

  2. Yes, Galt’s Gulch, to the extent there is still some Gulch to be found.
