Baby Alfie, the Latest Victim of Omnipotent Government, by Ron Paul

A hospital decides a baby must die and the baby’s parents can’t do anything about it. From Ron Paul at ronpaulinstitute.org:

Twenty-three-month-old Alfie Evans, passed away in a British hospital on Saturday. While the official cause of death was a degenerative brain disease, Alfie may have been murdered by the British health system and the British high court. Doctors at the hospital treating Alfie decided to remove his life support, against the wishes of Alfie’s parents. The high court not only upheld the doctors’ authority to override the parents’ wishes, it refused to allow the parents to take Alfie abroad for treatment.

In upholding the government’s authority to substitute its judgment for that of Alfie’s parents, the high court is following in the footsteps of authoritarians throughout history. Ever since Plato, supporters of big government have sought to put government in charge of raising children. The authoritarianism of a system where “experts” can override parents is underscored by a police warning that they were “monitoring” social media posts regarding Alfie.

Alfie’s case is not just an example of the dangers of allowing government to usurp parental authority or the failures of socialized medicine. It shows the logical result of the widespread acceptance of the idea that rights are mere privileges bestowed by government. It follows from this idea that rights can be taken away whenever demanded by government officials or the popular will.

Of course, most western politicians deny they believe rights come from government. They instead claim that government must place “reasonable” limits on rights to advance important policy goals, such as limiting the right to free speech to protect certain groups from hate speech, or limiting property rights to promote economic equality. But, a right by its very nature cannot be limited or abolished and still be a right.

This disdain for a true understanding of rights is found among both liberals and conservatives. Both support a welfare-warfare state funded via the theft of income taxes and the indirect theft of inflation. Both support jailing people for nonviolent actions like drinking raw milk. Many politicians, regardless of ideology, support restrictions on parental rights such as mandatory vaccination laws.

Alfie Evans: Another Child Sacrifice on Britain’s NHS Altar, by Joe Herring

Alfie Evans has died, but his case raises important issues about state-provided medical care and the rights of parents and their children, and the role of the judicial system. From Joe Herring at americanthinker.com:

I admit, my reaction to the plight of young Alfie Evans is colored by my experience with my own grandson, Joseph, who suffers from a similar disorder.

I see Joseph’s innocence in Alfie’s eyes, and I struggle with the marked physical resemblance between Alfie and Joseph at that age.  I also vividly recall the doctors counseling my daughter to abort her pregnancy, to save her child from suffering.

“He will likely live 18 months, certainly no more than three years,” they told us solemnly.  Joseph celebrated his 17th birthday in February of this year.

Regular readers of my columns will know his story…how the long sought diagnosis finally came after 16 years of trying, and how the discovery of his specific disorder (he is the only known case worldwide) revealed a function of human DNA previously unknown to science – a function the understanding of which is changing the way medicines are made.

I see Joseph’s smile on Alfie’s lips and recognize that look of trust and love.  My heart is shredded over the arrogant, brutal indifference of the British National Health Service, willing to starve a child to death rather than risk another hospital proving its doctors wrong.

In a world distressingly familiar with violence, injustice, and hatred, a circumstance such as this – avoidable, by no means necessary – will torture our souls, as those charged with preventing man’s inhumanity toward man pivot from protector to executioner at the behest of misbegotten laws designed to empower the state at the expense of the citizen, in service to collectivism as god.Like the Nuremburg laws that made the atrocities of the Nazis all perfectly legal, even obligatory, England has adopted legislation that permits the doyens of the NHS to abrogate the rights of both patient and family with little more than a formal request to supine family courts, increasingly eager to burnish the reputation of their empty-suit, single-payer health care system.

Hospital With Shady Past Forcibly Removes Alfie Evans From Ventilator–But He’s still Breathing, by Arjun Walia

Why is decision to remove a child from a ventilator made by hospital bureaucrats and judges, and not the child’s parents? From Arjun Walia at collective-evolution.com:

The parents of Alfie Evans, a little boy from Liverpool, are having tremendous difficulty taking their son home after doctors seem to be laying down controversial claims about the child being brain-dead.  Alfie supporters will descend upon Buckingham Palace for a mass Protest and Prayer Rally. The Main Event at Buckingham Palace for Alfie will begin at 4 pm CLICK HERE for more details.

Judge Justice Hayden decided to disconnect Alfie Evans from the ventilator that kept him alive. The ventilation was taken away from him on Monday 23/04/2018 at 21.17 local time in Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool, and more than 48 hours later he is still living and breathing, even cracking a smirk (see below). His parents have been begging the hospital and the doctors to let them take him home.

They claim that he is brain-dead and in a vegetative state, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Alfie didn’t die within a few minutes like the doctors claimed he would, he is still alive, for over 48 hours now, without any help from medical machines. For 10 straight hours,  the hospital refused to provide the boy with either oxygen or  fluids in hopes he would pass away, but the child remained strong!

“On April 25, 2018 the appeal hearing was held at Royal Court of Justice. After over 4 hours listening to family and hospital lawyers, Lord Justice McFarlane decided to uphold the judgment made by Judge Hayden of taking Alfie’s life.”  (source)

Below is a post from Alfie’s mother on April 23rd via her Facebook page.  He is adorable, and the parents KNOW, as it’s quite obvious to many who are just picking up on this story, that there seems to be chances for survival, all he would need is the proper care, but authorities are refusing a transfer to another hospital. Again, the very fact that he is still breathing should set off alarm bells.

Italy wanted to help and granted Alfie citizenship at the start of this week so that the parents could easily bring the child over for proper treatment. The hospital is still denying this as an option. How can this hospital do what the complete opposite of what parents want? Why refuse care? Especially when they have been wrong about Alfie so many times? What is going on here!?
