He Said That? 11/6/14

From President Barack Obama, at his press conference yesterday, from the Wall Street Journal, “Parties Vow to Seek Common Ground”:

I don’t want to try to read the tea leaves on election results.

Let SLL give you a hand, Mr. Obama. You lost, big time. People don’t like Obamacare, the scandals, the incoherent foreign policy, or the economy, which despite all the dubious statistics still feels like it’s stuck in first gear and could pop back into reverse at any time.

What I am going to try to do as president is to make sure I’m advancing what I think is best for the country.

That Mr. President, is a big part of the problem. You know best, or think you do, and you’re not interested in other points of view, even when they are registered in a huge electoral victory for the other side. That’s not leadership, that’s childish self-absorption and denial.

I’m the guy who’s elected by everybody, not just from a particular state or particular district.

But when most of the particular states and particular districts in the country are voting against you and your policies (especially states and districts that have formerly supported you), don’t you think perhaps you should demonstrate a little humility and acknowledge that, unenlightened as they may be, the majority of voters didn’t see things the way you do? This is, after all, politics, the art of getting people to do what you want them to do.

If Mr. Obama does not do some growing up in a hurry, it’s going to be a long 806 days (but who’s counting?) until the next president is inaugurated, assuming Obama does not declare himself Emperor for Life.

Ex-CBS reporter’s book reveals how liberal media protects Obama by Kyle Smith

From Kyle Smith, at the New York Post:

Sharyl Attkisson is an unreasonable woman. Important people have told her so.

When the longtime CBS reporter asked for details about reinforcements sent to the Benghazi compound during the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack, White House national security spokesman Tommy Vietor replied, “I give up, Sharyl . . . I’ll work with more reasonable folks that follow up, I guess.”

Another White House flack, Eric Schultz, didn’t like being pressed for answers about the Fast and Furious scandal in which American agents directed guns into the arms of Mexican drug lords. “Goddammit, Sharyl!” he screamed at her. “The Washington Post is reasonable, the LA Times is reasonable, The New York Times is reasonable. You’re the only one who’s not reasonable!”

Two of her former bosses, CBS Evening News executive producers Jim Murphy and Rick Kaplan, called her a “pit bull.”

That was when Sharyl was being nice.

Now that she’s no longer on the CBS payroll, this pit bull is off the leash and tearing flesh off the behinds of senior media and government officials. In her new memoir/exposé “Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama’s Washington” (Harper), Attkisson unloads on her colleagues in big-time TV news for their cowardice and cheerleading for the Obama administration while unmasking the corruption, misdirection and outright lying of today’s Washington political machine. She Said That? 10/11/14

From Gwyneth Paltrow, introducing President Obama at a fundraiser at her home in Brentwood, California.

I am one of your biggest fans, if not the biggest. You’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly. It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass.

Canada Free Press, “Gwyneth Paltrow and the Celebrity in Chief Who Would Be King,” 10/10/14 http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/66664

Interestingly, if Ms. Paltrow had left this star-studded Hollywood fundraiser, it would have lowered the average IQ at the gathering.

A Brief History of Government by Robert Gore

By Robert Gore

The history of government is a history of violence. The first caveman “leader” was the most skilled practitioner of violence; he provided security for his tribe and subjugated other tribes. His power meant that he was the dispenser of justice, resolving disputes and punishing those who broke the tribe’s taboos. His services were never free; tribute was exacted from those he led. Usually a theology was created that ascribed mystical powers to the leader—good PR.

As the millennia unrolled, tribes became city-states, nations, and empires; leaders became pharaohs, kings, czars, and emperors, and government remained a protection racket and dispenser of justice, often retaining the religious gloss. The only check on governments’ power was when they encountered overwhelming violence—invasion or revolution or some combination of the two. Every government failed eventually; the unfettered ability to employ violence against other people destroys human psyches, judgment, and morals. Governments compiled an unmatched record of war, genocide, and destruction of lives, property, commerce, and peaceful cooperation among people.

However, they are a necessary evil. For centuries political philosophers have grappled with how to preserve the necessary while eliminating the evil. The Founding Fathers tried to limit our government: designing a republic; delineating an agency role for government, to which the people delegated enumerated powers; separating those powers among three branches; creating checks and balances. Constitutional amendment, judicial interpretation, and executive, legislative, and bureaucratic accretions of power have destroyed that design. With only a few shrinking exceptions, our government can use its coercive power for any purpose it sees fit. That puts it in the illustrious company of every other government in the world, and all the failed governments since the cavemen. Continue reading

He Said That? 10/9/14

From Chris Matthews, illustrious member of the Fourth Estate:

The fact is, this president has the opportunity to put it together, but he needs to stop playing politics, stop running for office, stop playing the ethnic groups, and say, ‘Look, I’ve only got two years left. I have to get something done.’ The Daily Caller, quoting from Andrea Mitchell Reports, 10/8/14

This from a man who has, from the time he first became smitten with The One, abandoned all pretense of political objectivity and journalistic integrity, and insinuated that anyone who questioned his love interest’s public pronouncements, veracity, policies, or executive performance was a racist. Now the president is supposed to quit politicking and playing ethnic groups against each other? Sounds like his hyperloyal cheerleader is a bit disillusioned and confused, counseling the president to stop the tactics that made “Hardball” Matthews a big fish in the very small, abysmally rated, MSNBC puddle. Is Matthews not getting “the same thrill up his leg?”
