UK “Justice”: “Silencing the Silencing”, by Bruce Bawer

Tommy Robinson was silenced and those who would report and comment on his silencing were silenced, in a once great nation sliding downhill quickly. From Bruce Bawer at gatestoneinstitute.org:

  • The charge against Robinson declared by the police at the time of arrest, “breach of peace,” was changed to “contempt of court.” Apparently, the former offense would not constitute a violation of the terms of Robinson’s suspended sentence from last year and thereby justify immediate imprisonment. But by declaring Robinson guilty of “contempt of court,” the judge was able to ship him straightaway to prison.
  • In fact, it is clear to people all over Britain what is really going on here. Their country is being steadily Islamized, and their government is abetting this process. Muslims commit outrageous crimes, and police treat them respectfully — then turn around and arrest ordinary British citizens for daring to complain.
  • “Judicial power never been used before to silence a journalist in Britain and then to silence the silencing…. This lie came directly from Theresa May’s government…. and it was planned to the last detail. A courtroom and a judge were waiting to immediately sentence him. A prison cell was booked in his name…. First the good news: on Wednesday, at about noon London time, Tommy Robinson’s former lawyer, Helen Gower, reported on Twitter that “Tommy has just rung me and is well.” He had been receiving e-mails of support and was humbled by them. “He did inform me of some of the things that happened on Friday,” Gower wrote, “but I don’t want to put anything out and I will leave that to his Solicitor.”

Well, there it stands: the media gag order on the Tommy Robinson case has been lifted, but Robinson himself remains in Hull Prison, having been arrested on the street in Leeds, hauled into a kangaroo court, and then sent off to jail. Incidentally, in a YouTube video, Canadian activist Lauren Southern and a member of Robinson’s team have provided a plausible explanation of why the charge against Robinson declared by the police at the time of arrest, “breach of peace,” was changed to “contempt of court.” Apparently, the former offense would not constitute a violation of the terms of Robinson’s suspended sentence from last year and thereby justify immediate imprisonment. But by declaring Robinson guilty of “contempt of court,” the judge was able to ship him straightaway to prison.

British Media: Lockstep Lies, by Bruce Bawer

It shouldn’t be called “British Media” anymore. The Ministry of Information is more accurate; what used to be the British media has become an arm of the government. From Bruce Bawer at gatestoneinstitute.org:

  • Did the Daily Mail’s lawyers have to check with the British government, which had placed a gag order on reporting about the arrest, to make sure that it was permissible to report on the protest, if not directly on the arrest itself?
  • It seems fair to say that the incident has shocked, outraged, and scared people around the world who, until now, had thought of the United Kingdom as a free country.
  • “Britain used to be a bastion of free speech. Today its leaders are behaving like North Korea and Saudi Arabia.” – Geert Wilders, MP; The Netherlands
  • Meanwhile, Robinson remains in jail for daring to exercise his free speech, and what the mainstream media have won back is the right to resume repeating their lockstep lies about who he is and what he stands for.

Hundreds of supporters of Tommy Robinson filled the streets of London on Saturday in protest against his arrest in Leeds on Friday, but it was not until shortly after midnight on Monday that the Daily Mail posted a report about the protest on its website. The story, which was unsigned, was updated on early Monday afternoon. How to explain the delay? Did the Daily Mail’s lawyers have to check with the British government, which had placed a gag order on reporting about the arrest, to make sure that it was permissible to report on the protest, if not directly on the arrest itself?

The Mail made sure to describe the hundreds of protesters as “far-right.” How did the Mail ascertain their politics? Does it not occur to the Mail that even if Robinson were far-right, which he is not, a British subject would not have to be far right to want to take in a protest against his shockingly rapid-fire arrest, trial, conviction, and imprisonment for the sole offense of reporting from outside a courthouse?

Press Meekly Accepts UK Judge’s Gag on Reporting Activist’s Arrest, Imprisonment, by Tom Blumer

The British press used to be one of the most aggressive and feisty in the world. Now it’s a docile lamb, thoroughly tamed by the British government. From Tom Blumer at newsbusters.org:

On Tuesday morning, UK and many international media outlets finally began reporting on the Friday arrest and imprisonment in England of anti-immigration activist and journalist Tommy Robinson.

The delay of over three days in covering the story was due to out-of-control statism combined with journalistic cowardice.

On Friday, the judge in the trial of a child “grooming” gang in Leeds issued a ban on “any report of these proceedings.” The judge’s justification, i.e., excuse, was to avoid “a substantial risk of prejudice to the administration of justice.” The judge even extended his order to include any reporting on Robinson’s arrest and sentencing.

After initially reporting Robinson’s arrest for broadcasting a livestream using his phone outside of the proceedings, UK and international outlets with UK bureaus took down their hours-old stories, apparently fearing that merely mentioning Robinson’s name, or even the existence of the judge’s order, in any report posted anywhere in the world would expose them to legal jeopardy.

In the U.S., Matt Drudge did not feel similarly constrained:

Nor was Fox News, despite parent company News Corp.’s significant UK presence. Fox covered the story on Saturday:

Robinson “was arrested, charged and sentenced within five hours.” On Tuesday, the judge lifted the press gag relating to “Robinson’s arrest and sentencing hearing.”

On Monday, Mark Steyn posted on Robinson (whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) and the trial’s subject:

… “grooming” (is) the useless euphemism for industrial-scale child gang rape and sex slavery by large numbers of Muslim men with the active connivance … of every organ of the state: social workers, police, politicians. Oh, and also the media.

You can say a lot of things about Tommy Robinson, but he’s one of the embarrassingly small number of Britons who recognizes the horror inflicted on those young and vulnerable girls on the receiving end of “diversity” and seeks to do something about it.

Emails from the BBC, Reuters, the Guardian, the New York Times, Le Monde, the Sun, NBC and the Washington Post were saved by GCHQ and shared on the agency’s intranet as part of a test exercise by the signals intelligence agency.

The journalists’ communications were among 70,000 emails harvested in the space of less than 10 minutes on one day in November 2008 by one of GCHQ’s numerous taps on the fibre-optic cables that make up the backbone of the internet.

New evidence from other UK intelligence documents revealed by Snowden also shows that a GCHQ information security assessment listed “investigative journalists” as a threat in a hierarchy alongside terrorists or hackers.
