I remember cycling through the streets of South London on that blood-soaked day five years ago when Lee Rigby was killed. Riot vans screamed and hurtled past me. I’d no idea what was going on. It wasn’t until I got home that I saw there was an attempt at a beheading on the streets of South London, which explained the riot vans. I was traumatized, along with any other normal and sane human being who watched the murder unfold. The raised and bloodied hands of the devout Muslim who tried to behead Lee. The knife. The interview he gave.

I watched the news very closely in the ensuing days and shook my head with disbelief at the falsehoods that were being spread by the media and other Muslims. They were saying things like, “The killers were not true Muslims,” and that the killers’ motivations were a “misinterpretation of a beautiful religion.” All of this nonsense spouted by media and politicians alike. It was as though they were reading off a script. Lee’s killers had been mobile in Woolwich and their associates were still on the streets. Questions had to be answered, and there were more jihadists to be rounded up. I expected people to demand answers and not rest until we had them, but instead there was some graffiti sprayed here, some name-calling occurring there, and life carried on as usual.

I never expected to see the likes of it again, not on a UK street in broad daylight, but we’ve had less public beheadings in London since then, as well as car jihads and random, multiple stabbings. After each Islamic terrorist atrocity, I keep wondering, WHAT will tip the scales? We are becoming inured to terrorism and bloodshed. Terror attacks are as normal an event as a clock ticking in the UK today. And after each one, we have the moronic lefties spouting utter nonsense such as, “We Londoners will carry on as normal.” Well, of course we will. What else can we do? We aren’t all going to carry out a mass exodus of the city or lock ourselves indoors. But how about the illogical left start thinking of ways to thwart jihadists and extremists, instead of stepping aside and letting them carry on with their barbaric ways?

The latest on the Tommy Robinson story. From Tyler Durden at zerohedge.com:

The arrest, imprisonment, and government-ordered media blackout of UK journalist and activist Tommy Robinson has set off a firestorm of protests around the world.

Free speech advocates and supporters of Robinson’s movement from Melbourne to Berlin came out by the thousands to protest the Friday arrest outside of Leeds Crown Court while Robinson was reporting on a pedophile grooming trial via Facebook livestream. Within six hours of his detention, Robinson was slapped with a 13 month prison term for violating a prior suspended sentence for a similar offense.

“A big police van with about seven police officers pulled up and arrested [Robinson] and told him to stop live streaming,” Robinson’s producer told RT (before their article (archived) was scrubbed from the internet). “They said it was incitement and a breach of the peace.

“No peace has been breached – there were two other people there and he’s been perfectly quiet talking into his phone. [The police] said nothing about the court proceedings. It’s very strange.”

Equally as disturbing are the implications of a court-ordered media ban, making it a criminal offense for news outlets operating in the UK to cover Robinson’s arrest and incarceration. In a page straight out of George Orwell’s 1984, several news outlets were forced to pull articleswhich were published before the ban.

Mass protests broke out following Robinson’s arrest – the largest of which was a crowd of thousands in the UK, demonstrating at the gates of Downing Street to demand the release of the conservative activist.

Although the British government is trying to keep the Tommy Robinson matter under wraps in Britain, they can’t shut out the rest of the world. From Tyler Durden at zerohedge.com:

A German member of Parliament (MP) has offered British activist Tommy Robinson political asylum following his arrest on Friday for suspicion of breaching the peace while livestreaming outside the trial of a child grooming gang.

“Tommy Robinson is a political prisoner, whose life is in clear and pressing danger. We have to do everything we can to make sure he is granted political asylum,” said the office of conservative German MP Petr Bystron in a Saturday statement provided to the Gateway Pundit‘s Cassandra Fairbanks.

“As we know, German asylum laws are applied very liberally. Since 2012, 1.8 million mostly economic migrants have come to Germany under these asylum laws, even though they were not actually persecuted politically,” said Bystron, who himself came to Germany as a political refugee from Communism when he was 16.

The statement continued on to say that Robinson is an actual victim of political persecution and that he is appealing to the German Federal Government, the German Foreign Office, the European Union and all human rights organizations — including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch — to step in and fight for his freedom and grant him asylum in Germany. –TGP

“Freedom of speech is under attack all across Europe. I was at the AfD march in Berlin today, where people were waving #FreeTommy signs. I grew up under Communist dictatorship, and I will not let our freedoms be taken away again,” Bystron told TGP.

Robinson, a UK activist and founder of the English Defence Leage was arrested on Friday outside of Leeds Crown Court for reporting on a pedophile grooming trial. Within six hours of his arrest,Robinson was handed a 13 month prison term for violating a prior suspended sentence for a similar offense.

He was admonished last year by Judge Heather Norton for filming outside a gang rape case in Canterbury, who slapped him with a three month suspended sentence on the condition that he cease his coverage of the trials.

you should be under no illusions that if you commit any further offence of any kind, and that would include, I would have thought a further contempt of court by similar actions, then that sentence of three months would be activated -Judge Heather Norton

  • The swiftness with which injustice was meted out to Tommy Robinson is stunning. No, more than that: it is terrifying.
  • Without having access to his own lawyer, Robinson was summarily tried and sentenced to 13 months behind bars. He was then transported to Hull Prison.
  • Meanwhile, the judge who sentenced Robinson also ordered British media not to report on his case. Newspapers that had already posted reports of his arrest quickly took them down. All this happened on the same day.
  • In Britain, rapists enjoy the right to a full and fair trial, the right to the legal representation of their choice, the right to have sufficient time to prepare their cases, and the right to go home on bail between sessions of their trial. No such rights were offered, however, to Tommy Robinson.

The very first time I set foot in London, back in my early twenties, I kicked up into an adrenaline high that lasted for the entire week of my visit. Never, in later years, did any other place ever have such an impact on me — not Paris, not Rome. Yes, Rome was a cradle of Western civilization, and Paris a hub of Western culture — but Britain was the place where the values of the Anglosphere, above all a dedication to freedom, had fully taken form. Without Britain, there would have been no U.S. Declaration of Independence, Constitution, or Bill of Rights.

In recent years, alas, Britain has deviated from its commitment to liberty. Foreign critics of Islam, such as the American scholar Robert Spencer, and for a time, even the Dutch Parliamentarian Geert Wilders have been barred from the country. Now, at least one prominent native critic of Islam, Tommy Robinson, has been repeatedly harassed by the police, railroaded by the courts, and left unprotected by prison officials who have allowed Muslim inmates to beat him senseless. Clearly, British authorities view Robinson as a troublemaker and would like nothing more than to see him give up his fight, leave the country (as Ayaan Hirsi Ali left the Netherlands), or get killed by a jihadist (as happened to the Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh).

In the European Appeasement Olympics, Who Wins? by Bruce Bawer

Tommy Robinson, prominent critic of Islamic immigration and crime within Great Britain, was arrested by the British government. This article says that “according to some sources” within hours of his arrest he was tried and sentenced to thirteen months in prison. Even for the British that sounds extraordinarily summary, and SLL has seen no verification. From Bruce Bawer at gatestoneinstitute.org:

  • The difference [between what Tommy Robinson did and any reporter] is that the BBC and other mainstream media are determined to give as little coverage as possible to the mass Muslim rape of infidel girls.
  • These same cops arrested Tommy Robinson on Friday not because he did anything wrong, but because he was drawing attention to Muslim crimes that they would rather see ignored – and drawing attention, too, by extension, to their own genuinely criminal failure to defend innocent children from what was essentially jihadist torture.
  • Within hours, according to some sources, Robinson was tried and sentenced to thirteen months in prison. Even in Islam-appeasing Britain, this seems inconceivable. It sounds like Soviet or Nazi “justice,” not like British jurisprudence.
  • However Tommy Robinson may have strayed from the straight and narrow over the years, he is a champion of those victimized children, a voice for freedom, and a living rebuke to the cowardice of the British media, police, social workers, and other officials and public figures who knew what was going on in flats in Rotherham, Newcastle, and elsewhere, but stayed silent.

All right, the competition is over. Britain wins.

For years I thought that Britain’s long tradition of open debate and individual liberty would enable it to stand up more firmly to the encroachments of Islam than other Western European countries. I worried more about the Netherlands, where Pim Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh were murdered, Ayaan Hirsi Ali was hounded into exile, and Geert Wilders, a member of parliament, was put on trial — and still is on trial this week — for criticizing Islam in public. I worried more about Denmark, where Lars Hedegaard, a serious historian, was tried for criticizing Islam in the privacy of his own home, and where the Jyllands-Postencartoon crisis caused riots. I worried about Norway, where people at the highest levels of government conspired to force an apology out of the editor of a tiny Christian periodical who had dared to reprint the Danish cartoons. I worried about France, where the suburbs of major cities were increasingly becoming sharia enclaves, and Sweden, where a cordon sanitaire was put around the one party that dared criticize that country’s own steady Islamization.
