Labor Shortage Caused by Government, by John Stossel

Pay people not to work and they won’t work, which makes it hard for employers who need to pay people to work to compete. From John Stossel at theburningplatform.com:

Labor Shortage Caused by Government

America has a record 8.1 million job openings.

The media call it a “labor shortage.”

But it’s not a labor shortage; it’s an incentive shortage.

“No one wants to work,” says a sign on a restaurant drive-thru speaker in Albuquerque, New Mexico. “Please be patient with the staff that did show up.”

I never wanted to work. I got a job because I had to support myself. That was good for me. It forced me out of my comfort zone. It made me a better person.

Had government offered me almost equal money not to work, I never would have applied.

Today, government takes away that incentive.

The American Rescue Plan, passed in March, increased unemployment payments by hundreds of dollars and extended them for up to 73 weeks. Given the cost of commuting, etc., many people find they are better off financially not working.

Denmark once offered workers five years of unemployment. Then they noticed that workers found work after exactly five years. So, Denmark cut the benefit to four years. Then most workers found jobs after four years. Now Denmark, wisely, has cut benefits in half.

Tampa McDonald’s Exposes America’s Systemic Labor Shortage, Forced To Pay People $50 To Interview, by Tyler Durden

How about that, you pay people without requiring work and they don’t work. From Tyler Durden at zerohedge.com:

Something strange is happening in the US economy.

A McDonald’s in Tampa, Florida, offers $50 to show up for a job interview. Even with free money plastered in big, bold black letters on its menu sign, facing a busy roadway, there are reportedly still no takers.

Business Insider spoke with Blake Casper, the franchisee who owns the fast-food restaurant in Tampa, who said the idea to hand out free money is an attempt to secure workers. He said he would do “whatever it takes to hire workers.”

“At this point, if we can’t keep our drive-thrus moving, then I’ll pay $50 for an interview,” said Casper, who owns 60 McDonald’s restaurants across the Tampa-St. Petersburg Metropolitan Area.

Casper said McDonald’s business is booming, but a labor shortage has made workers harder to find. His problems are merely a reflection of a much larger significant labor shortage developing across the country as trillions in Biden stimulus are now incentivizing potential workers not to seek employment but to sit back and chill and collect the next stimmy check for doing absolutely nothing in what is becoming the world’s greatest “under the radar” experiment in Universal Basic Income.

Report: Most Popular Career Choice Now ‘Professional Stimulus Check Recipient’

From The Babylon Bee:

U.S.—A new survey has found that the most popular career choice among those entering the job market is “professional stimulus check recipient.”

While young adults considering their futures used to prefer more traditional roles like doctor, teacher, firefighter, or satire writer, a full 92% of those surveyed said they just want to stay home all day and wait for the government to send them a stimulus check.

The professional stimulus check recipient career path has many advantages, as you can work any hours you like, from zero to zero hours per week. No training is required. Many benefits are available for certified PSCRs, like Netflix subscriptions subsidized by the government, $1400 shopping sprees at regular intervals, and fun vacations funded by taxpayers. Plus, as inflation continues to spiral out of control, paychecks will rise, with PSCRs getting up to millions of dollars a year within the decade.

“Why would people go to medical school for eight years when they can just stay home and wait until the next stimulus check?” said economist Paul Wendell. “It just doesn’t make sense. The pay is pretty good, the hours are fantastic, and the benefits are great. So anyone who’s in the job market should really consider becoming a PSCR. It’s just a sensible decision.”

The study also found that professional protesters and Mask Karens are popular choices right behind becoming a full-time stimulus check recipient.
