Emily Oster’s Plea Bargain, by James Howard Kunstler

We have yet to find in the alternative media one scribe for whom Emily Oster’s plea for amnesty and forgiveness went over well. Certainly not James Howard Kunstler, at kunstler.com:

By now, everybody and his uncle has seen Emily Oster’s plea for “pandemic amnesty” in The Atlantic magazine, a house organ of the people in America who know better than you do about… really… everything. Emily’s wazoo is so stuffed with gold-plated credentials (BA, PhD, Harvard; economics prof at Brown U) it’s a wonder that she could sit down long enough to peck out her lame argument that “we need to forgive one another for what we did and said when we were in the dark about COVID.”

Emily wasn’t “in the dark.” She had access to the same information as the Americans who recognized that everything the public health authorities, the medical establishment, and many elected officials shoveled out about Covid and its putative remedies and preventatives was untrue, with a patina of bad faith and malice — especially when it was used to persecute their political adversaries.

The War on Humanity Continues, by Michael Lesher

Don’t think that the potential enslavers of humanity don’t have a lot more cooked up. They do. From Michael Lesher at brownstone.org:

Ayear ago, after a melancholy Halloween that more resembled a funeral than a holiday, I published an article I called “A War against Humanity.”

I wanted to explore not so much the dramatic statistics that can readily claim readers’ attention but the more insidious ways in which the COVID coup has infected our inner lives.

I wrote: “I cannot get used to the subtle encroachment of fear into every aspect of our collective existence. I cannot accept the slow poisoning of all the interactions between one human being and another by the relentless tide of COVID19 propaganda.”

Alas, very little has changed since then. In fact, the subtle markers of the propaganda-inflicted damage remain so much in place that I cannot do better than to republish what I wrote last year. And so the original “A War against Humanity” appears below, with the kind support of the Brownstone editors.

Here, I will only mention a few things that have actually deepened my worries since the piece was originally published.

Remember all the obstructions suddenly thrown up between human beings in early 2020 – plastic barriers, masks and “social distancing” measures – to erode the communal solidarity that is the presupposition of democracy? I noted in the article that those barriers seemed to be here to stay. And it looks as though I was right. Anthony Fauci’s yelping about the “profound risk” allegedly posed by monkeypox, a “rare” disease that even the usual suspects admit is “difficult to spread,” is depressing evidence that social atomization is still a high priority for the folks who brought us illegal mass quarantines and muzzling mandates.

The same is true of those mysterious shortages the press still blames on an unspecified “supply-chain crisis.”

It Ends as it Began: As a Political Ploy, by Jeffrey A. Tucker

Political ploy is too easy a term for the totalitarian subterfuge we’re living through. From Jeffrey A. Tucker at brownstone.org:

The current US president finally said it during a 60 Minutes interview: “The pandemic is over.” Though obviously true by the classical definition, Biden’s comment seemed almost accidental, said as an echoed response to a direct question.

Consider, however, that many times as many people die from Covid daily in the US (300-400) than when the US first announced the outrageous lockdowns of March 16, 2020. In those days, deaths were approaching 50 per day, mostly in New York. It will very likely get worse over the winter months.

Instead of today’s calm and relaxed attitude – just chill because infection, disease, and death are just part of life – there were banshee screams from the whole of governments and media. People were running around with their hair on fire, dousing themselves with sanitizer, wiping down groceries, and hiding under their sofas from the “invisible enemy.”

Back then, if you raised any doubts about closures, masks, forced separation, domestic capacity restrictions, or suggested it might not be the worst thing to keep businesses open, or were caught getting a haircut, you were shamed, shouted down, and banned by social media. You could even get fired.

Fauci’s Red Guards, by Michael P. Senger

There are historical precedents for Covid totalitarianism and Anthony Fauci idolatry, one of which is Mao’s China. From Michael P. Senger at dailyskeptic.org:

The answer lies in forced preference falsification. When those who speak up in principled opposition to a dictator’s policies are punished and forced into silence, those with similar opinions are forced into silence as well, or even forced to pretend they support policies in which they do not actually believe. Emboldened by this facade of unanimity, supporters of the regime’s policies, or even those who did not previously have strong opinions, become convinced that the regime’s policies are just and good – regardless of what those policies actually are—and that those critical of them are even more deserving of punishment.

One of history’s great masters of forced preference falsification was Chairman Mao Zedong. As László Ladány recalled, Mao’s decades-long campaign to remould the people of China in his own image began as soon as he took power after the Chinese Civil War.

The Psychology of Totalitarianism, by Mattias Desmet

The term “Mass Formation Psychosis” has received a lot of attention the last few months. This critical deep dive into the phenomenon and its relation to totalitarianism is compelling. From Mattias Desmet at mattiasdesmet.substack.com:

From rationalism to mass formation – and towards Truth speech.

At the end of February 2020, the global village began to shake on its foundations. The world was presented with a foreboding crisis, the consequences of which were incalculable. In a matter of weeks, everyone was gripped by the story of a virus—a story that was undoubtedly based on facts. But on which ones? We caught a first glimpse of “the facts” via footage from China. A virus forced the Chinese government to take the most draconian measures. Entire cities were quarantined, new hospitals were built hastily, and individuals in white suits disinfected public spaces. Here and there, rumors emerged that the totalitarian Chinese government was overreacting and that the new virus was no worse than the flu. Opposite opinions were also floating around: that it must be much worse than it looked, because otherwise no government would take such radical measures. At that point, everything still felt far removed from our shores and we assumed that the story did not allow us to gauge the full extent of the facts.

Until the moment that the virus arrived in Europe. We then began recording infections and deaths for ourselves. We saw images of overcrowded emergency rooms in Italy, convoys of army vehicles transporting corpses, morgues full of coffins. The renowned scientists at Imperial College confidently predicted that without the most drastic measures, the virus would claim tens of millions of lives. In Bergamo, sirens blared day and night, silencing any voice in a public space that dared to doubt the emerging narrative. From then on, story and facts seemed to merge and uncertainty gave way to certainty.

The Courage to Face Covid-19, by Dr. Joseph Mercola

There have been a few heroes whose fight against the medical establishment and its propaganda and procedures has been costly. From Dr. Joseph Mercola at lewrockwell.com:

In this video, John Leake, a true crime author, and Dr. Peter McCullough discuss their new book, “The Courage to Face COVID-19: Preventing Hospitalization and Death While Battling the Bio-Pharmaceutical Complex.” As noted by McCullough, the focus of the book is not really COVID; it’s about crime. It’s about the crimes perpetrated against patients, doctors and others.

“I have been stripped of virtually everything in my career because I’ve tried to help patients,” McCullough says. “And most of the stripping occurred even before the vaccines came about.

This is astonishing. I’m the most published person in my field, in the world … I have over 650 citations in the National Library of Medicine; over 1,000 publications on the interface between heart and kidney disease.

I’ve lectured at the New York Academy of Sciences, the FDA [U.S. Food and Drug Administration], the European Medicine Agency (EMA). I’m in the upper echelon of academic physicians in the world.

But because I innovated — I got an investigational new drug application, I got large grant funding, I devised ways of treating patients, I worked with others, I demonstrated that it works, I testified in the U.S. Senate, helped the White House the best I could when they reached out to me — because of that, I was stripped of my job as an academic physician.

Fortunately, I changed employers and kept my practice going. I’ve been stripped of two major editorships, two professorships. I’ve been stripped of every NIH committee, every Industry Clinical Trial Committee. And the unique thing about the stripping is, there’s no courtesy call, there’s no due process, no explanation.

Anything contractually that indicates due process is completely violated. No faculty senate, no board meetings or approvals. So, when it happens, it’s simply, ‘You’re stripped off this activity that you’ve done, or position held in some cases, for decades.’”

As noted by Leake, what we’ve seen during these COVID years is a reversion back to a pre-scientific era of immutable orthodoxy, much like the counter reformation in Europe during the Inquisition of the late 1500s and early 1600s.

There was no due process then and there’s no due process now. Someone accused you of being in league with the devil, and you were summarily declared guilty and/or tortured until you agreed.

Ugly Covid Lies, by Ron Paul

A perpetrator of the Covid travesty has revealed the deceptions in a new book. From Ron Paul at ronpaulinstitute.org:

After two years of unprecedented government tyranny in the name of fighting a virus, the prime instigators of this infamy are walking free, writing books, and openly pretending they never said the things they clearly said over and over.

Take Trump’s White House Covid response coordinator Deborah Birx, for example. She was, as the Brownstone Institute’s Jeffrey Tucker points out in a recent article, the principal architect of the disastrous “lockdown” policy that destroyed more lives than Covid itself. Birx knew that locking a country down in response to a virus was a radical move that would never be endorsed. So, as she admits in her new book, she lied about it.

She sold the White House on the out-of-thin-air “fifteen days to slow the spread” all the while knowing there was no evidence it would do any such thing. As she wrote in her new book, Silent Invasion, “I didn’t have the numbers in front of me yet to make the case for extending it longer, but I had two weeks to get them.”

She was playing for time with no evidence. As it turns out, she was also destroying the lives of millions of Americans. The hysteria she created led to countless businesses destroyed, countless suicides, major depressions, drug and alcohol addictions. It led to countless deaths due to delays in treatment for other diseases. It may turn out to be the most deadly mistake in medical history.

The Normalization of The New Normal Reich, by CJ Hopkins

Germany is once again proving to be a pacesetter in eliminating civil liberties. From CJ Hopkins at consentfactory.org:

I know, you’re probably sick and tired of hearing about the Rise of the New Normal Reich. You want it to be over. So do I. It isn’t over … not by a long shot. It might seem like it’s over where you are. I imagine it does if you live in Florida, or in Texas, or the UK, or Sweden, or Croatia, or in some other country or state in which the majority of the “Covid restrictions” have been lifted, or perhaps were never introduced in the first place. If that’s the case, I’m happy for you.

I happen to live in New Normal Germany, the current tip of the New Normal spear, or one of the tips of one of its spears (or mRNA-laced hypodermic needles), the others being countries and states like Canada, China, Australia, New York, California, and assorted other hotbeds of New Normalism. If you live in one of these New Normal strongholds, as I do, you are acutely aware of how it is not over.

Masks Cause Harm: We Need to Protect Our Youngest from Our Government, by 2nd Smartest Guy in the World

New studies keep coming out concluding masks did more harm than good. From the 2nd Smartest Guy in the World at 2ndsmartestguyintheworld.substack.com:

by RHODA WILSON

“The CDC is once again promoting policies with no basis in scientific fact, but these policies are reflexively accepted by those whom we trust to care for our children. Covid may be “over” for many of us, but not so for many of our children,” wrote Dr. Robert Malone.

According to Wikipedia, by the beginning of April 2020, prominent national and intergovernmental health agencies and their leaders had recommended the use of masks to “reduce transmission, including the [World Health Organisation] WHO, American, European and Chinese Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, and American immunologist and NIAID Director Anthony Fauci.”

By August 2020 more than 50 countries had made face coverings compulsory when people were outside their own homes “in an attempt to slow down the spread of the novel coronavirus.”

In March 2021, an estimated 129 billion face masks were used per month.  In April 2021, Masks4all noted that more than 40 countries had mandated the use of face masks.  Masks4all were campaigning for masks to be made compulsory in all US states because, in their unscientific, misguided and harmful view: “We need every state to enforce mask-wearing in public …  If you go out without a mask, you might kill someone. You wouldn’t even know it. If you see someone out without a mask, they could kill you.”

And those who profit from selling face masks seem to be hopeful the use of face masks will continue for the foreseeable future. An article in May 2022 published by MarketWatch stated that over the next five years the disposable face masks market will register a magnificent spike in [compound annual growth rate] CAGR in terms of revenue,  The disposable face masks market revenue … will reach multi-million USD in 2026, with a magnificent CAGR during 2020-2026.”

Revenge of the Locked-Down Voters, from Brownstone Institute

A lot of voters are not going to either forget or forgive. From The Brownstone Institute at brownstone.org:

You might have noticed a certain political instability in the air, not just in the US but all over the world. In a world in which people generally care about rights and freedoms, surely this was inevitable, however much the expert managerial class failed to anticipate it. Beginning in March 2020, much of the world embarked on a wild experiment to treat peoples of the world as lab rats in an experiment in virus control. The experiment failed and has left chaos in its wake.

We are beginning to see major rumblings of change insofar as voters can make that possible. In the UK, Boris Johnson is on notice and more members of parliament have come to realize and reflect the fury of voters. In France, Macron’s hegemony is over with the arrival of powerful new parties at the gates. In the US, Biden’s unpopularity is legion while upcoming challengers at all levels are motivated by a fierce desire to know how this happened and what to do to prevent its repeat.

The Wall Street Journal’s Daniel Henniger has written a fantastic reflection on the big picture and the growing upheavals. Portions are excerpted below. We would only add a major lesson of the last two years: the influence of sitting politicians has clearly been bested by the administrative state, which in most countries imagines itself to be the true rulers of the social order, contrary to all democratic principles. This machinery needs a fundamental challenge if there will be genuine reform.

The current global discontent with economic life is overwhelmingly a function of one other word: lockdown. Lockdowns are normally associated with prison riots, not the world’s economies. One may admit that the first months with the mysterious Covid-19 virus were a time of generalized panic, and governments defaulted to the epidemiologists’ standard fix of social quarantining. But then leadership essentially let the public-health bureaucracies take over their countries’ economic life.
