Revolt of the Essential Workers, by Alex Gutentag

The restrictions for Covid-19 may have stopped worker protests for awhile, but most of the Covid-19 measures like lockdowns and involuntary unemployment have intensified worker dissatisfaction. From Alex Gutentag at tabletmag.com:

The resurgent labor movement may be the greatest challenge yet to the top-down class warfare of the pandemic era

Back before the COVID-19 pandemic started, the year 2019 saw anti-government demonstrations in Paris, Manila, La Paz, Port-au-Prince, Bogotá, Prague, Quito , Beirut, Hong Kong, London, Baghdad, Barcelona, Budapest, Santiago, New Delhi, Jakarta, Buenos Aires and more, earning the title “the year of the protest.” It was also a year of resurgent labor activity in the United States. After decades of declining union participation, the country saw 25 major work stoppages involving 425,500 workers, the highest number since 2001.

The economic discontent that propelled both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders to popularity had been building for many years. As a recent article in the journal American Affairs noted, $34 trillion of real equity wealth, in 2017 dollars, was created between 1989 and 2017. Nearly half that sum (44%) consisted of a reallocation of corporate equity to shareholders at the expense of worker compensation, while economic growth accounted for just 25% of that increase in wealth. In other words, despite the advent of seemingly near-miraculous, time- and space-saving digital technologies, the post-Cold War “economic boom” consisted mainly of America’s wealthy shareholders taking money from its increasingly insecure workforce.

America, and other Western societies, had moved from a model of real growth and expanding benefits for all to a model where the rich got richer by impoverishing the less wealthy orders of society—and the lower orders were fighting back. However, after lockdowns were imposed in March 2020, the balance of power abruptly shifted back toward billionaire oligarchs and large corporations. Tech-based U.S. monopolies widened their profit margins as workers and their children were confined to their homes and the Fed pumped money into Wall Street. As the Fed provided unlimited purchases of corporate debt and securities, millions of people filed for unemployment, nearly 1 in 4 households experienced food insecurity, and 200,000 small businesses closed. The result was an estimated loss of $1.3 trillion in household wealth for American workers. Meanwhile, U.S. billionaires gained $1 trillion.

COVID-19 stopped a nascent American workers’ movement in its tracks, as protests and acts of political rebellion were essentially banned. Amid intense fear and confusion, public health edicts effectively suspended the right to assembly. The concept of “social distancing” encouraged people to view their neighbors, colleagues, friends, and even family members as potential sources of disease. “Experts,” technocrats, and corporations became the heroes of the pandemic, while the masses became the villains.

In-N-Out calls California vaccine mandate ‘offensive.’ Will others join battle? By Luke Money, Gregory Yee, and Rong-Gong Lin II

When we lived in LA, our family went to In-N-Out all the time. Good for Arnie Wensinger for standing up to the tyranny. From Luke Money, Gregory Yee, Rong-Gong Lin II at The Los Angeles Times via msn.com:

Earlier this month, an In-N-Out at San Francisco's famed Fisherman's Wharf refused to screen patrons' COVID-19 vaccination status. (Alex Tai / Getty Images)
© (Alex Tai / Getty Images) Earlier this month, an In-N-Out at San Francisco’s famed Fisherman’s Wharf refused to screen patrons’… The city had ordered the burger spot, and all other local restaurants, to screen patrons’ COVID-19 vaccination status before allowing them to dine indoors. When inspectors found In-N-Out wasn’t doing that, they temporarily closed the location.

The fast-food chain publicly decried the action but took steps to reopen just a few days later.

But as more communities across California require proof of vaccination for many retailers and other public venues, the battle over enforcement of the new rules is just beginning to heat up. Next month, the city of Los Angeles will require that eateries, shopping malls and many other indoor venues check customers’ vaccination status.

Such mandates aim to slow the spread of COVID-19 both by reducing potential exposure and encouraging more people to get vaccinated. But they also place an additional burden on businesses and leave government officials grappling with how to deal with scofflaws.

Many businesses have welcomed these sorts of rules, saying it gives them government backing to do what they think is safe. But that’s far from a universal view.

As Arnie Wensinger, In-N-Out’s chief legal and business officer, put it: “We refuse to become the vaccination police for any government.”

“We fiercely disagree with any government dictate that forces a private company to discriminate against customers who choose to patronize their business,” he said in a statement. “This is clear governmental overreach and is intrusive, improper and offensive.”

Do You Hear the People Sing, Singing the Song of Angry Men? By Gen Z Conservative

It’s hard to listen the song from Les Miserables and not want to just run right out and revolt. From Gen Z Conservative at genzconservative.com:

I was, as the Covid lockdowns, tyrannies, and indignities progressed with nary a peep from the once proudly free populaces of the great states of the West, growing despondent.

How could free men, men whose cultural traditions are grounded in revolution, independence, and individualism, go along with such horrendous tyrannies without raising their voices, much less leveling a musket at the Redcoats? Did they not care that an authoritarian regime is treading on them?

But, now it’s over. Now the revolt against the Covid tyrants has finally begun.

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of the people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

Now that that glorious song is stuck in your head, take a minute to look at what’s happening around the world.

In the US, workers are quitting en masse rather than go along with unconstitutional experimental vaccine mandates.

Nurses, cops, soldiers, Amtrack workers, and now even pilots are resigning their positions or unclipping their wings, quitting work earlier than they intended rather than go along with an unconstitutional science experiment.

As a result, thousands of flights have been canceled, there aren’t police to patrol the leftist communities that hate them, and hospitals are shutting down as thousands upon thousands of nurses walk out rather than comply. Huzzah!

Yet better, citizens across the United States are leaving their abodes and standing up for what is right in public! Even New Yorkers have gotten in on the action:

We are headed for a geopolitical Minsky Moment, by Mark E. Jeftovic

Governments are often like markets—things look best for them just before they collapse. Are we on the verge of a World War III in which people take on their governments? From Mark E. Jeftovic at bombthrower.com:

King John is forced to sign the Magna Carta, Runnymede UK, 1215AD

Could This be a Blow-Off Top for Tyranny?

King John’s military failure at the Battle of Bouvines triggered the barons’ revolt, but the roots of their discontent lay much deeper. King John ruled England in a ruthless manner at a time when the instruments of government and the practices of the courts were becoming consolidated. Eventually the barons could no longer abide the unpredictable ruling style of their kings. Their discontent came to a head during John’s reign.

Magna Carta, Muse and Mentor

There was a lot of defeatism evident in the comments on my recent series of posts, Why the West can’t ban Bitcoin, How we know Bitcoin is a force for good and No-Coiners don’t get that it’s not up to the government.  The overall timbre being that governments are all-powerful and that they will simply ban or outlaw emergent phenomenon that doesn’t suit their purposes.

For awhile this was also my concern. When I wrote Domestic Terror is a Government Without Constraints it was motivated from a place of angst and hopelessness. However as we’ve all been watching events unfold, my mindset around this has been shifting. I have been coming across instance after instance of historical accounts on how seemingly unassailable and despotic regimes were swept away in mere moments of time, when it was least expected, when they seemed to be at the height of their power and poised to consolidate it even more.

It is in these inflection points where nobody is aware of their existence, a grain of sand shifts somewhere and suddenly a geopolitical Minsky Moment ensues. Then it’s all over:

  • The fall of the 300-year old Romanov dynasty and 800 year line of Tsars in a weekend over 1917 a few months after an obscure prince named Felix Yusopov murdered a peasant scoundrel named Rasputin
  • The collapse of the Soviet Eastern Bloc in 1989 after gateway between Austria and Hungary was opened one weekend during a Pan-European picnic. It led to the collapse of the USSR after a failed hardliner coup in 1991.
  • In 1945, the government of Haiti was overthrown in an uprising three days after the French writer and revolutionary Andre Breton gave a speech on Surrealism in Port-Au-Prince.

Southwest Airlines Is Collapsing – A Glimpse Of The Future And Hope, by Charles “Sam” Faddis

The power of no. Only by exercising that power do we have a prayer of freeing ourselves from the tyranny descending across the world. From Charles “Sam” Faddis at andmagazine.com:

Joe Biden’s federal vaccine mandate is toothless. He cannot make it work. He cannot enforce it, and so the federal government has tried to ‘back door‘ a national vaccine mandate by pushing corporations to do their dirty work. Maybe the feds can’t really order you to take the jab, but if they can prevent you from earning a living without the vaccine, they can achieve the same objective.

It seems simple enough and strangely fitting for a government that is increasingly indistinguishable from giant multinational corporations, Big Tech, and the oligarchs that run the entire enterprise.

Except, a funny thing is happening. The people, those Neanderthals clinging to their Bibles and guns, who are supposed to do what they are told, pay taxes and fight the corporate wars are pushing back. Deserted by their elected representatives, who answer to their corporate masters, average Americans are refusing to comply.

Take a look at Southwest Airlines, and you will see exactly what this new civil disobedience looks like. You may also see the future.

The White House has pressed the airlines to adopt vaccine mandates using the leverage of federal contracts. United knuckled under first and announced a vaccine requirement. Southwest recently announced its employees had until December 8, 2021, to get vaccinated or lose their jobs.

The pilot’s union for Southwest Airlines responded to the mandate by filing suit and trying to block the action, but the pilots themselves are not waiting for court action to make clear where they stand. They have started using vacation and sick days and refusing to show up for work. Other employees have followed suit.

Our Economy Is Starting To Break Down On A Very Basic Level, by Michael Snyder

Once you get past the title (Starting to break down? The economy’s been a debt-supported wreck since at least the turn of the century.) and the first sentence (I know many people, including me, who weren’t optimistic at all back in January, especially after January 6), this isn’t a bad article. Michael Snyder’s never at a loss for reasons to be pessimistic, but he supports his case well. From Snyder at themostimportantnews.com:

Do you remember how much optimism there was last January?  Many Americans were entirely convinced that really bright days were just around the corner, but instead things have taken a dramatic turn into the dumpster over the last 9 months.  The Afghanistan debacle was the worst foreign policy embarrassment in modern American history, the Biden administration is trying to deal with an unprecedented crisis on our southern border, and the way that our politicians are handling the pandemic is causing extremely deep divisions throughout our society.  In addition, our economy is starting to break down on a very basic level.  On a widespread basis, goods are not getting to the places they need to be when they need to be there, and services are often not available when people need them.  As time has passed, the “malfunctioning” of our economy has spread, and now the coming mandates threaten to make things a whole lot worse.

Just look at the chaos that was caused in Florida on Sunday

Southwest has canceled 1,018 Sunday flights as of 2 p.m. ET, according to flight tracker FlightAware. That’s 28% of the the airline’s scheduled flights and the highest of any U.S. airline by a wide margin.

American Airlines has canceled 63 flights, or 2% of its operation, while Spirit Airlines canceled 32 flights, or 4% of its flights, according to FlightAware.

Overall, more than 1,800 flights were canceled during the weekend, and Southwest is publicly blaming the problems on “weather challenges”

The Great Southwest Airlines Rebellion? by Ron Paul

Let’s hope the great Southwest Airlines Rebellion sparks even greater rebellions across the country. From Ron Paul at ronpaulinstitute.org:

The incredible cruelty and folly of forced vaccines finally came home to roost. The vaccine mandate backlash has been bubbling just under the surface, but now it has spilled out into the open, threatening to completely derail an already crumbling economy and to obliterate a deeply unpopular US President and Administration.

Seemingly out of nowhere what appears to be a Southwest Airlines rebellion has taken flight this weekend. According to media reports, scores of pilots and other Southwest employees have coordinated the taking of “sick days” to use them up in advance of a Southwest Airlines mandate to get the jab or lose the job. Over Saturday and Sunday more than 2,000 flights have been cancelled, with airports experiencing full-on mayhem.

The Southwest Airlines Pilots Association is suing the airline over the imposed vaccine mandate, bolstering the claim that there is a “sick out” underway among angry Southwest pilots.

The mainstream media is doing its best to keep a lid on the expanding rebellion against the vaccine mandates, and Southwest Airlines itself is blaming the cancellations on bad weather and a lack of air traffic controllers. However, the weather problems that Southwest claims to be experiencing seem unique to that carrier: no other airline (thus far) is reporting such weather-related cancellations. And FAA spokesperson Steve Kulm told USA Today that “No FAA air traffic staffing shortages have been reported since Friday.”

Will other pilots, such as at American Airlines, follow suit? Rumors are circling that this is only the beginning.

The Waiting Is The Hardest Part, by James Howard Kunstler

Things are moving, albeit too slowly for some of us, to some sort of a unsettling confrontation in the great vaccination debate. From James Howard Kunstler at kunstler.com:

Ol’ Tom Petty sure got that right: the waiting is the hardest part. The lines are drawn: vaxed on one side and unvaxed on the other. Can it be that the unvaxed know rather specifically what the dangers of the vax actually are? That they are making a rational decision, taking a stand, against a toxic hacking of their immune systems and systemic damage to their organs? It’s not that hard to understand, after all. Those spike proteins can kill you, if not right away, then steadily, steadily over the weeks and months. So, now we’re left to wait as the light wanes and we slide into fretful darkness.

And can it be that that the vaxed are so clue-deprived that they have not seen the news? Sure, information was suppressed pretty tightly for two years since this madness started, but the news media, turns out, is as leaky as the mRNA vaccines. If you were even moderately aware, you could discover that the vaxes create havoc in your bloodstream. It’s right ‘out there,’ documented and for real. But now, if you vaxed up, and you happened to snag a clue since then, you have a powerful incentive for denying that you might have made a mistake and acquired a serious problem. And you have a support group of about half the nation to reinforce that denial and even demonize those unvaxed who keep hectoring you with conspiracy theories. Hard to fathom how much you hate them for it.

It looks like all of Hollywood’s zombie dreams will be coming true: civil war between the walking dead and the rest of us, who, let’s face it, cannot be faulted for getting the spooky feeling that we are being hunted down now. It’s kind of serious when you are deprived of your income, and also of access to all the common activities of daily life. Yet just this weekend we see what could be the opening skirmish, the Bull Run, of this new civil war: the “sick-out” of Southwest Airlines pilots and other employees whom the company is attempting to coerce into vaxing. These Southwest Airline rebels threw quite a spanner in the works. Will the country even understand what happened? Will other vax-averse cohorts of sore-beset employees at other companies follow? Wait….

The Ashes of our Fathers, by Tim Stebbins

A beautiful and eloquent refusal to surrender the land of his forebears, from Tim Stebbins at theburningplatform.com:

“Then out spake brave Horatius,
The Captain of the Gate:
To every man upon this earth
Death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better
Than facing fearful odds,
For the ashes of his fathers,
And the temples of his gods”

Thomas Babington Macaulay

I have been trying for some days to get my head around what it is I want to say in this particular essay. I grow weary of endless discussion and pointless speculation about the current condition of this country. A different voice whispers in my ear. A different picture forms in my mind’s eye.

An increasing number of my countrymen, it seems, no longer possess the ability to look to the past with any degree of honesty. Nor are there many left able to look to the future with any degree of hope. We live in Orwell’s eternal present, adrift on a sea of ignorance and apathy, bereft of any mooring in the truth of our history, or any lodestar to guide us into our future.

We have a past that connects us one to another. It is not a perfect past, but neither is it the litany of evil that the intellectually stunted and morally corrupt children of the left would have us believe. The connections of our shared historical experience continue to deteriorate like the cartilage of a bad knee. We have reached the painful bone-on-bone stage and something has to give.

There are many who ignorantly subscribe to the belief that the events of our past are subject to the cacophonous judgement of the historically illiterate and intellectually dishonest. These fools daily assault the sensibilities of the dwindling number who value the wisdom and traditions of our forebears. In the present age, it seems the lessons of millennia of human history count for nothing. A hysterical mob of historical revisionists, nouveau puritans, and petty despots now control the public discourse.
