It’s the 4th of July! Why Is Democracy Destroying the World? by L. Reichard White

Why democracy, or mob rule, doesn’t work. From L. Reichard White at lewrockwell.com:

History definitively proves that, when practiced by governments, democracy guarantees discord, discontent, disharmony, upheaval, chaos, and political disaster, often leading to totalitarianism.

But,” you may be thinking already, “How can that be? Isn’t democracy good? Doesn’t it prevent those things?

So you may be surprised to discover that more than half — 58% — of 4 million folks around the world surveyed in a Cambridge U. study are dissatisfied with democracy. That’s the highest level of discontent ever recorded in the survey’s 25 year history. Further, the level of dissatisfaction is particularly high in the U.S.A. and U.K.

The New Yorker calls the unprecedented number of world-wide upheavals, most in democracies, The Story of 2019.” They’re continuing in 2020.

For starters, there are upheavals in The Cradle of Democracy, Greece — and Bolivia, Ecuador, Iraq, Algeria, Haiti, Hong Kong, Columbia, Sudan, Brazil, Argentina. And more democracies on the brink. South Africa, Italy, and “authorities” aren’t too sure about India, etc.

Even Germany. And England, Scotland, Ireland, Whales and their people are divided over “BREXIT.”

These shakey democracies include assumed-to-be extremely stable countries such as Chile, Spain (Catalonia), Venezuela, Lebanon, even Israel.

US Empire’s Passion For Iraqi Democracy Magically Disappears, by Caitlin Johnstone

Democracy in foreign lands is fine until those foreign lands want to kick you out of their country. From Caitlin Johnstone at caitlinjohnstone.com:

Following a vote by the Iraqi parliament to remove foreign troops from the nation, the US president threatened to destroy Iraq’s economy in retaliation and to refuse to leave unless an expensive military base worth billions of dollars was paid for.

“If they do ask us to leave, if we don’t do it in a very friendly basis,” Trump told the press on Sunday. “We will charge them sanctions like they’ve never seen before ever. It’ll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame. If there’s any hostility, that they do anything we think is inappropriate, we are going to put sanctions on Iraq, very big sanctions on Iraq.”

“We have a very extraordinarily expensive air base that’s there. It cost billions of dollars to build. Long before my time,” Trump also said. “We’re not leaving unless they pay us back for it.”

The Invention of Modern Slavery Called Democracy, by Gary D. Barnett

Democracies can be just as tyrannical and despotic as kings and queens. From Gary D. Barnett at lewrockwell.com:

“All government, in its essence, is a conspiracy against the superior man: its one permanent object is to oppress him and cripple him. If it be aristocratic in organization, then it seeks to protect the man who is superior only in law against the man who is superior in fact; if it be democratic, then it seeks to protect the man who is inferior in every way against both. One of its primary functions is to regiment men by force, to make them as much alike as possible and as dependent upon one another as possible, to search out and combat originality among them. All it can see in an original idea is potential change, and hence an invasion of its prerogatives. The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is very apt to spread discontent among those who are.”

~ H. L. Mencken, A Mencken Chrestomathy

Most believe that the days of kings and queens are behind us, and that such obvious despotic rule has no place in modern times. The commoners after all, had enough of such arrogance long ago, and were getting restless. The ruling class knew they had a problem, so they came up with an ingenious idea they called democracy in order to quell the tide of discontent evident among the people. The government retained power, but easily fooled the people into believing that with democracy, they would govern themselves. This was a fool’s game from the beginning.

Only Donald Trump Can Save American Democracy and Only with Our Support, by Paul Craig Roberts

If the coup against President Trump succeeds, the last vestige of democracy in America will be gone. From Paul Craig Roberts at paulcraigroberts.com:

Now that the “quid pro quo gate” hoax has collapsed, like the Russiagate hoax, the presstitutes are inventing a new quid pro quo hoax. It wasn’t money that Trump dangled before the Ukrainian president in exchange for an investigation of Ukraine’s contribution to the Russiagate hoax. It was a presidential visit to Ukraine. I listened to the latest CIA-directed presstitute plot unfold today on NPR. Three semi-males devoid of integrity did their best to substitute a visit to Ukraine by Trump for the unsubstantiated promise of money. The visit is all third hand as there is no mention of such a visit in the telephone conversation between Trump and Zelensky. The impeachment hoax now rests on unverifiable alleged conversations between Trump aides and Zelensky aides that Trump will honor Ukraine with a visit if Ukraine reopens the investigation. Whether this is the investigation of the Urainian company closed down by Joe Biden or the investigation of Ukraine’s contribution to the “Russiagate” hoax has yet to be made clear by the presstitutes.

This is how hopeless the coup against Trump is.

Nevertheless, it might succeed anyhow.

It is a known fact that the CIA director John Brennan orchestrated the Russiagate hoax, an act of sedition, and it is a known fact that FBI director Comey committed a felony by misleading the FISA Court, and it is a known fact that FBI official Peter Strzok and his FBI mistress were involved in a plot to prevent Trump’s election, and so on and on. Yet despite the publicly known information of their crimes, no indictments have come forth from the Justice Department.

Is Bill Barr sitting on the evidence and indictments until Trump is driven from office? We have to understand that the Republicans are as corrupt as the Democrats. Just as Democrats do, Republicans want the money and careers that service to the ruling interest groups provide. Draining the swamp means cutting interest group politics and money from the process that governs politics. As a number of scholars have researched and concluded, the American people have zero input. Both political parties want to keep it that way.

The test before us has nothing whatsoever to do with Trump’s guilt of any of the hoax charges. The test we face is whether the American people can retain any control over their government or whether control passes firmly and irrevocably into the hands of the Deep State.

As I wrote the other day, if Trump goes, Democracy goes.

The CIA’s control of the Western media is now complete. The story of Operation Mockingbird, the CIA’s large-scale program beginning in the 1950s to manipulate news media for propaganda purposes, aided and abetted by CIA funding of student and cultural organizations and magazines as front organizations, is well known. Udo Ulfkotte’s book, Bought Journalism, is now available in English from ProgressivePress.com with the title Presstitutes: Embedded in the Pay of the CIA. Ulfkotte, an alpha German journalist for the major German newspaper describes how the CIA has completely destroyed media independence throughout Europe.

What this means is that the entirety of the Western World lives in The Matrix created for them by the military/security complex. The real dangers destroying the West go unnoticed, because they are not seen as a threat to the economic interests of the ruling oligarchs.

All of Donald Trump’s problems as president are due to his intention to “normalize relations with Russia.” Such a normalization would dispense with the ENEMY that justifies the $1,000 billion dollar annual military/security budget and the political power that accompanies it. President Eisenhower told Americans in 1961 that the military/security complex was a threat to their control of government. Because of Cold War hysteria, Americans did not listen. Therefore, today they have lost control of their government.

Only Trump can recover it for us. Trump is rich. He doesn’t need money. He is narcissistic. He is not dependent on the whore media’s opinion. He stands up to the presstitutes who are a megaphone for the military/security complex.

The ruling Establishment, not the American people, has decided that Trump has to go. Why does anyone support the ruling Establishment? The ruling American establishment has always sacrificed the American people, truth, and justice to its narrow selfish interests. Why do American progressives want to help the ruling Establishment get rid of President Trump?

The Sham Of Democracy, by the Zman

Nothing of any significance that the US government does is decided by the US people. From the Zman at theburningplatform.com:

Over the weekend, the news brought word that someone calling himself Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi had been killed by special forces in Syria. According to President Trump, “He died after running into a dead-end tunnel, whimpering and crying and screaming all the way.” He apparently blew himself up using a suicide vest. Presumably, real men are boastful and arrogant as they deploy their dynamite vests. Or maybe real men simply allow themselves to be captured and sent off to Guantanamo Bay.

Of course, we cannot even be sure this actually happened. The Russians are telling the world they doubt this thing happened. They point to various factors that would seem to contradict Trump’s story. This is a bit ironic, in that the people accused in the biggest hoax in American history are now claiming this is a hoax. You get the feeling that maybe the three-year long Russian hoax has caused the Russians to suspect that American politicians are not the most honest people in the world.

Democracy Is Now a Hindrance to the Imperial State, by Charles Hugh Smith

Our real rulers have no problem with democracy as long as we elect nominal rulers they’ve approved. From Charles Hugh Smith at oftwominds.com:

Democracy is the coat of paint applied for PR purposes to the Imperial State.

If we step back from the histrionics of impeachment and indeed, the past four years of political circus, we have to wonder if America’s democracy is little more than an elaborate simulation, a counterfeit democracy that matches our counterfeit capitalism (Matt Stoller’s term).

If we review the mechanics of our “democracy,” we find that swapping which party controls Congress doesn’t really change the policies of The Imperial State, the central state that oversees America’s global commercial and geopolitical empire.

Next, consider the high return rate of incumbents. Once in power, politicos can skim the millions of dollars in campaign contributions needed to win re-election.

Then there’s the some are more equal than others nature of the judicial system that serves the interests of financial and political elites: Bernie Madoff was free to continue his Ponzi scheme for years despite whistleblower attempts to instigate a federal investigation, and pedophile /schmoozer / “intelligence agency asset” Jeffrey Epstein was free to exploit underage teens and pile up $200 million after a wrist-slap conviction.

No Cheers for Democracy, by Jayant Bhandari

The founding fathers equated democracy with mob rule, and they weren’t too far off the mark. From Jayant Bhandari at internationalman.com:

Democracy, the most celebrated religion of both the Left and Right, has spread like wildfire…

Zimbabwe has recently fallen for more democracy. Social movements in the Middle East — with the most recent one known as the Arab Spring — are inching the area toward more democracy. Even in reclusive Saudi Arabia democracy is slowly gaining an upper hand.

Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Nepal are solidifying their democracies; their military or traditional-religious heads have found it increasingly difficult to assert their will. Many political leaders in Africa now vacate their seats in response to the verdict of their citizens.

The Brexit Battle Shows Democracy Is Only Allowed When the Regime Likes the Outcome, by Ryan McMaken

Some might argue that democracy where only approved outcomes are allowed isn’t really democracy. From Ryan McMaken at mises.org:

The United Kingdom’s Supreme Court ruled “illegal” a parliamentary tactic used by PM Boris Johnson to ensure Brexit would be carried out on October 31, more than six months after Brexit was supposed to take effect.

While the court wasn’t ruling on Brexit, per se, the context of the situation makes it clear the ruling is really just the latest move from the UK’s political class designed to postpone Brexit yet again.

Given the history of EU-related referenda in Europe, we can already guess how the situation will play out. British voters will either be asked to vote again on Brexit — so that this time, they can get it “right” — or the Brexit agreement will be constructed in such a way that Brexit will be a British exit in name only.

Beginning of US Slavery, by Walter E. Williams

The founding fathers hated democracy. From Walter E. Williams at theburningplatform.com:

The New York Times has begun a major initiative, the “1619 Project,” to observe the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. It aims to reframe American history so that slavery and the contributions of black Americans explain who we are as a nation. Nikole Hannah-Jones, staff writer for The New York Times Magazine wrote the lead article, “America Wasn’t a Democracy, Until Black Americans Made It One.” She writes, “Without the idealistic, strenuous and patriotic efforts of black Americans, our democracy today would most likely look very different — it might not be a democracy at all.”

There are several challenges one can make about Hannah-Jones’s article, but I’m going to focus on the article’s most serious error, namely that the nation’s founders intended for us to be a democracy. That error is shared by too many Americans. The word democracy appears nowhere in the two most fundamental founding documents of our nation — the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Instead of a democracy, the Constitution’s Article IV, Section 4, declares, “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government.”

Think about it and ask yourself whether our Pledge of Allegiance says to “the democracy for which it stands” or to “the republic for which it stands.” Is Julia Ward Howe’s popular Civil War song titled “The Battle Hymn of the Democracy” or “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”?

Doug Casey on What Happens After the Next War

The US government has a tough time keeping track of all the wars with which it’s involved. From Doug Casey at internationalman.com:

International Man: The US government is actively at war in about half a dozen countries. It’s eyeing new conflicts all the time.

On the topic of getting involved in another war… President Trump was reported to have said this about his National Security Advisor John Bolton: “If it was up to John, we’d be in four wars now.”

What do you make of all this?

Doug Casey: Where to start?

Well, first of all, things are out of control. The US Government has become so big, so dysfunctional, and with its fingers in so many pies that anything can happen, unpredictably. Secondly, it’s extremely dangerous. Prodding lots of hornet’s nests guarantees you’ll be stung—perhaps enough to put you in the hospital. Third, it’s extraordinarily expensive. And the US Government is already bankrupt.

As you pointed out, the US is actively at war in right now in who knows how many countries— including at least a half a dozen in Africa that nobody can find on a map. There are combat troops in probably 100 countries around the world. There are probably 800 bases around the world. These things are all just trip wires waiting for an accident or an incident to draw the country into a real war. So far—at least since the misadventure in Vietnam—the US has just engaged in trouble-making exercises and sport wars. But the big thing on the horizon right now is Iran. This is hunting big game.
