Populism Isn’t Dead, It’s Stunned, by Tom Luongo

We know that they know that we know that they’re lying, all the time, about everything. From Tom Luongo at tomluongo.me:

Today’s political landscape is looking more and more like the classic Monty Python ‘Dead Parrot’ sketch.

You know the one, John Cleese walks into the shop to complain about the parrot he’d just been sold was dead and he wants his money back. The shopkeeper, Michael Palin, insists it isn’t.

Hilarity ensues.

The Dead Parrot sketch is one of the high points of Python’s particular blend of absurdism and social commentary that transcends its time.

Everywhere I look I see Michael Palins doing their best to convince us of the most absurd lies to hide the rank incompetence at every level of our society’s power structure.

And it doesn’t matter what issue we’re discussing: masks, vaccines, election fraud, racism, Joe Biden’s health, climate change, the sovereign bond markets, lockdowns.

No matter the issue or the question Biden’s Press Secretary, the uniquely incompetent Jenn Psaki, will be happy to ‘circle back to that later’ but never doing so hoping to just get through the next news cycle without a revolt.

Everyone’s doing the ‘believe me’ look that body language experts talk about all the time. It’s all so tiresome and exhausting. And you can feel the level of frustration building like John Cleese’s anger in the sketch.

A Wilderness of Lies, by The Zman

Americans are in the position citizens of the USSR were in its heyday: trying to figure out the truth from legacy media’s lies and omissions. From The Zman at takimag.com:

A Wilderness of Lies

Way back in the before times, a regular feature of the media was the Kremlinologist, who would be brought in to explain something about the Soviet Union. Strictly speaking, Kremlinology and Sovietology were different things. The former focused on Russia and its role in the Soviet system. The latter focused on the Soviet Union as a whole, as if it was a single organism. The terms were often used interchangeably in the Cold War.

Further, the media version of the Kremlinologist was something like the court astrologer, in that they were tasked with using their secret knowledge to explain what was happening with the Russians. If Brezhnev was seen as distracted at a public ceremony, the Kremlinologist would be brought in to explain its meaning. The Kremlinologist became a carnival act toward the end of the Cold War.

Kremlinology and Sovietology were useful to statecraft, however, as the Soviet system was a black box. The West had its spies, but many of those spies were double agents used to feed the West false information. In the wilderness of mirrors that was the rivalry between East and West, the Kremlinologist was useful in helping to sort the facts from the deliberate fictions. They helped contextualize Kremlin behavior.

Rigged to Fail—From Musk to Powell, by Matthew Piepenburg

Living on lies is like living on junk food and TV, sooner or later it will kill you. From Matthew Piepenburg at goldswitzerland.com:

For quite some time we have been warning about the rising shark fin of rising yields and rates.

As of this writing, one can almost hear John Williams’ orchestral theme song to Jaws ringing in the ears.

The Slow Creep

Mortgage rates in the U.S. have hit 3%, dramatically curtailing mortgage re-fi’s.

Meanwhile, oil prices are now at levels not seen since 2018 (as broader commodities in general are on the rise) while the tech stocks of the NASDAQ (most of which thrive on cheap rates) recently, and predictably, saw volatile swings, at one point down past 10% from their February 12th peak.

Rates are up, the dollar is up and as Barron’s reporter, Janet H. Cho, observed: “Things are getting interesting.”

Unfortunately for Barron’s readers, however, these “interesting” developments have little if nothing to do with what she described as “economic growth picking up.”

Economic growth? Huh? Really? C’mon…

Spinning the “economic growth” meme for rising yields is akin to attributing Lance Armstrong’s cycling success to an apple-a-day rather than a steroid per week.

What Barron’s feature articleis conveniently overlooking is the far more obvious fact that investors, here and around the world, are calling the Fed’s bluff, not swooning over “economic growth.”

MSM’s narrative about the murderous Capitol mob has collapsed, but don’t let that get in the way of a good political lynching, by Tony Cox

What is the mainstream media going to do without Donald Trump to kick around? SLL puts the over/under on the bankruptcy or the first mainstream outlet as one year. From Tony Cox at rt.com:

MSM's narrative about the murderous Capitol mob has collapsed, but don't let that get in the way of a good political lynching
As their dishonest narrative collapses around them, mainstream media outlets and Democrat politicians are trying to hold together their latest bid to destroy Donald Trump, but some of the lies are getting too big to shrug off.

I’m reminded of  the media-speak popularized during the Trump era – lightly used words or phrases that became ubiquitous in the talking points, like “violating norms” – especially the term “debunked.” In the eyes of MSM and their controllers, Trump was a president who needed to be debunked thousands of times. Whether it was about the size of his Inauguration Day crowd, the animal-like savagery of MS-13 gang-bangers or the fact that Haiti is “a s**thole”, any Trump claim had to be debunked, false or not.

When an obnoxious loudmouth constantly blurts out things that lift the skirt on the ruling class’ treachery, his voice must be discredited. And even if just part of his story can be attacked, the rest will be forgotten. It’s like a Jenga game where all the pieces automatically fall down when one is removed.

But the same standard doesn’t apply to the media’s own story lines. No matter how many times MSM and establishment politicians are exposed as liars — from the MLK bust in the Oval Office to the Russia collusion hoax — the people are supposed to keep believing the gist of their arguments. The Jenga tower can be levitating with entire floors missing, but the con artists insist that it’s still standing.

The Lies Of The Borg Are The Glue That Binds, by Doug “Uncola” Lynn

The Borg is the criminals who run the show. Its lies are believed with religious fervor by millions. From Doug “Uncola” Lynn at theburningplatform.com:

The Borg are an alien group that appear as recurring antagonists in the Star Trek franchise. The Borg are cybernetic organisms linked in a hive mind called “the Collective”. The Borg co-opt the technology and knowledge of other alien species to the Collective through the process of “assimilation”: forcibly transforming individual beings into “drones” by injecting nanoprobes into their bodies and surgically augmenting them with cybernetic components. The Borg’s ultimate goal is “achieving perfection”…

– SOURCE

You will be assimilated.  Resistance is futile.

– The Borg

Ironically, this article begins with an epilogue.  It is because what began four years ago with a dream to Make America Great Again® has now become the nightmare of a collectivist coup and The New Domestic War on Terror®.

For years now, I have speculated on the presidency of Donald Trump as the “bleeding of the brake lines before the big stop”.  Unfortunately, it now appears that speculation has been answered in the affirmative, because it happened:  America has been assimilated into The Collective.

In my last article on The Borg, I took a very hard-line approach on Trump as a Judas Goat hired by The Borg to trick patriotic Americans into a trap.  After all, the only obstacles that remained in the way of The Borg’s “Great Reset” were the U.S. Constitution and those who would defend the nation as founded.  And, yet, a U.S. President who promised to make America great again and swore an oath on a Bible to uphold said Constitution has surrendered the country to a stolen election and foreign governance.

Fragile And Unsustainable Lies, by Robert Wright

As you tell more lies to cover up previous lies, each new lie is that much more implausible and easy to see through. From Robert Wright at aier.org:

Many times throughout history, policymakers have doubled down on their own mistakes, refusing to believe that they were wrong or hoping that somehow doing the wrong thing twice or thrice would somehow make things right. Then it all came crashing down at once and the rulers lost their minds, and sometimes their necks or heads.

Economic, governance, and social systems often rely on each other in ways not readily discerned by narrow technocrats. When one crumbles, the others fall in rapid succession while all the putative experts express surprise. Look at the way that the U.S.S.R, one of the world’s two “super” powers, fell apart in the late 1980s when it lost enough feathers from its peacock tail in Afghanistan that its lies about the superiority of its command economy became obvious even to its own systematically deluded subjects.

When NPR proved inadequate to prevent Americans from seeing the few feathers left in America’s peacock tail, as evidenced by the surprise victory of Trump and his MAGA messaging in 2016, mass media joined forces with various “progressive” elements to create a propaganda machine that puts the old clunky Soviet state media to shame.

Do Trump Supporters Live in an Alternate Universe? by Bryce Buchanan

Who actually inhabits a non-real reality? From Bryce Buchanan at theburningplatform.com:

On Monday, in her MSNBC show, “Deadline”, Nicolle Wallace said that “right wing media”, like Fox were creating an “alternate reality” for their viewers.  Nicolle said, “You now have a true, a true alternate reality…  I mean, they are pumping flagrant lies into millions of viewers. They’re interviewing lunatics..”  Nicolle’s guest, the brilliant Al Sharpton (of Tawana Brawley hoax fame) said, “We’re now in a nation where facts don’t matter. You make up facts. And not only do you have an alternative reality, how do you debate someone that is dealing with a totally fictitious premise?

This talk of the alternate, fictional reality inhabited by Trump supporters has been expressed many times by those on the left.  After the Nunes memo was released, exposing parts of the Russia Hoax, CNN’s Brian Stelter said that Sean Hannity was promoting the Nunes lies and he called the story an “alternate reality”.  Stelter’s viewers knew for sure that Trump colluded with Russia,  just like the honorable Adam Schiff said.  Stelter was proud that his viewers knew the truth.

Regarding the current claims of possible election fraud, Stelter said, “This is not an alternative reality. This is a parallel universe of disinformation.”  Other reporters have added that Fox is, “ presenting you with absolute utter lies and nonsense and conspiracy theories.  … These viewers slash victims are not able to differentiate between fantasy and reality. That’s dangerous.”

‘China Lied, People Died?’ Look Who’s Talking! by Thomas Knapp

All governments lie, and sometimes their lies kill people. The US government is certainly no exception. From Thomas Knapp at antiwar.com:

“The costs of the pandemic keep piling up,” writes Marc Thiessen at the Washington Post. “Somebody has to pay for this unprecedented damage. That somebody should be the government of China.”

And why, pray tell, should China’s government be punished? For “intentionally lying to the world about the danger of the virus, and proactively impeding a global response that might have prevented a worldwide contagion.”

Sounds fair, doesn’t it? If a government lies and people die as a result, that government and its functionaries should be held responsible, right? Good enough for me.

But sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, so if we’re having Peking Duck this week, I’d like to know when Thiessen plans to cough up his share of US government’s tab.

As a speechwriter for US president George W. Bush and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld in the first decade of this century, Thiessen was directly responsible for pushing lies that resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan.

People’s Skepticism About Covid-19 Is The Fault Of The Lying Mass Media, by Caitlin Johnstone

If you refuse to believe habitual liars, who’s at fault when you don’t believe them when they might be telling the truth? From Caitlin Johnstone at medium.com:

Coronavirus disinformation is the hot topic of the day, with pressure mounting on social media platforms to censor incorrect information about the virus and mainstream news outlets blaring dire warnings every day about the threat posed by the circulation of false claims about the pandemic.

“As fast as the coronavirus has raced around the globe, it has been outpaced by a blinding avalanche of social media sorcery and propaganda related to the pathogen, much of it apparently originating in Russia,” the Washington Post editorial board warns. “As always when it comes to its relations with the West, Moscow’s main currency is disinformation, and it spends lavishly.”

This would be the same Washington Post who falsely assured us that the Bush administration had provided “irrefutable” proof that the government of Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. The same Washington Post who falsely assured us that Russian hackers had penetrated the US electricity grid to cut off heat during the winter, and who circulated a McCarthyite blacklist of alternative media outlets designated “Russian propaganda” compiled by a group of anonymous internet trolls. The same Washington Post whose sole owner is a literal CIA contractor yet never discloses this brazen conflict of interest when reporting on the US intelligence community as per standard journalistic protocol.

More Lies on Iran: The White House Just Can’t Help Itself as New Facts Emerge, Philip Giraldi

One almost perfect way to tell if the US government is lying is when an official “explanation” closely follows whatever is being explained. When there has been no time to investigate the truth, then the explanation must almost certainly be a lie. From Philip Giraldi at strategic-culture.org:

Admittedly the news cycle in the United States seldom runs longer than twenty-four hours, but that should not serve as an excuse when a major story that contradicts what the Trump Administration has been claiming appears and suddenly dies. The public that actually follows the news might recall a little more than one month ago the United States assassinated a senior Iranian official named Qassem Soleimani. Openly killing someone in the government of a country with which one is not at war is, to say the least, unusual, particularly when the crime is carried out in yet another country with which both the perpetrator and the victim have friendly relations. The justification provided by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, speaking for the administration, was that Soleimani was in Iraq planning an “imminent” mass killing of Americans, for which no additional evidence was provided at that time or since.

It soon emerged that the Iranian was in fact in Baghdad to discuss with the Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi a plan that might lead to the de-escalation of the ongoing conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran, a meeting that the White House apparently knew about may even have approved. If that is so, events as they unfolded suggest that the U.S. government might have encouraged Soleimani to make his trip so he could be set up and killed. Donald Trump later dismissed the lack of any corroboration of the tale of “imminent threat” being peddled by Pompeo, stating that it didn’t really matter as Soleimani was a terrorist who deserved to die.
