Big Tech is more and more blatantly and openly censoring political views it doesn’t like. From Tyler Durden at zerohedge.com:

Documents leaked to Project Veritas by a Pinterest insider reveal that the San Francisco-based social media company has blocked links from Zero Hedge and several conservative or religious-based websites – adding them to a ‘porn domain block list’ originally intended to keep the platform free of sexually explicit material.

Veritas has published several internal documents and interviewed the insider, who explained how the company with nearly 300 million active monthly users censors pro-life and Christian content. The leak reveals an aggressive campaign to censor conservative content under the guise of ‘hate speech’ and ‘fake news.’

Facebook Reverses Zero Hedge Ban, Says It Made A “Mistake”, by Tyler Durden

Facebook, probably pushed by a social media eruption, has reinstated Zero Hedge. From Tyler Durden at zerohedge.com:

It has been a strange 24 hours.

On Monday, we first learned that for the previous two days, Facebook had banned all Zero Hedge content across its various mediums, as it went against Facebook’s “Community Standards” (which to the best of our knowledge, neither we not anyone else has any idea what they are), a decision which – as we noted yesterday – surprised us for two reasons: not only do we not have an official Facebook account, but Facebook did not approach us even once with a warning or even notification.

While we were in the dark about what had triggered Facebook, or what was the company’s motive, we were humbled and delighted not only with the media coverage this event received, but far more so with the outpouring of support we received from readers and across social media, where Zero Hedge had not been yet banned, like Twitter, where figures from various industries and across the political spectrum voiced support and came to our defense, with many condemning what we felt was an arbitrary decision.

Facebook Bans Zero Hedge, by Tyler Durden

There’s no explanation for why Facebook has now banned Zero Hedge stories and links. SLL features ZH stories and ZH has posted many of my articles. It could be ZH’s negative articles about some aspects of Facebook, or maybe Mark Zuckerberg just doesn’t like ZH’s anti-establishment political slant. Either way, it doesn’t matter. ZH will be around long after Facebook has gone the way of MySpace. From Tyler Durden at zerohedge.com:

Over the weekend, we were surprised to learn that some readers were prevented by Facebook when attempting to share Zero Hedge articles. Subsequently it emerged that virtually every attempt to share or merely mention an article, including in private messages, would be actively blocked by the world’s largest social network, with the explanation that “the link you tried to visit goes against our community standards.”

We were especially surprised by this action as neither prior to this seemingly arbitrary act of censorship, nor since, were we contacted by Facebook with an explanation of what “community standard” had been violated or what particular filter or article had triggered the blanket rejection of all Zero Hedge content.
To be sure, as a for-profit enterprise with its own unique set of corporate “ethics”, Facebook has every right to impose whatever filters it desires on the media shared on its platform. It is entirely possible that one or more posts was flagged by Facebook’s “triggered” readers who merely alerted a censorship algo which blocked all content.

Alternatively, it is just as possible that Facebook simply decided to no longer allow its users to share our content in retaliation for our extensive coverage of what some have dubbed the platform’s “many problems”, including chronic privacy violations, mass abandonment by younger users, its gross and ongoing misrepresentation of fake users, ironically – in retrospect – its systematic censorship  and back door government cooperation (those are just links from the past few weeks).

Unfortunately, as noted above, we still don’t know what event precipitated this censorship, and any attempts to get feedback from the company with the $500 billion market cap, have so far remained unanswered.

We would welcome this opportunity to engage Facebook in a constructive dialog over the company’s decision to impose a blanket ban on Zero Hedge content. Alternatively, we will probably not lose much sleep if that fails to occur: unlike other websites, we are lucky in that only a tiny fraction of our inbound traffic originates at Facebook, with most of our readers arriving here directly without the aid of search engines (Google banned us from its News platform, for reasons still unknown, shortly after the Trump victory) or referrals.

That said, with Facebook increasingly under political, regulatory and market scrutiny for its arbitrary internal decisions on what content to promote and what to snuff, its ever declining user engagement, and its soaring content surveillance costs, such censorship is hardly evidence of the platform’s “openness” to discourse, its advocacy of free speech, or its willingness to listen to and encourage non-mainstream opinions, even if such “discourse” takes place in some fake user “click farm” somewhere in Calcutta.

The Financial Times propels SLL to the big time!

You have to wonder why the Financial Times would bother sending a reporter to the Zero Hedge symposium and why that reporter, Alexandra Scaggs, would write a two-part article, with a third promised, about less than a hundred people gathered for a weekend in Marfa, Texas. Marfa is a pleasant mélange of art colony, sightseeing destination (faux Prada storefront outside of town, Chinati Foundation, McDonald observatory, the famed Marfa lights!) and bathroom/refreshment break for people on their way somewhere else. What could less than a hundred people in the middle of nowhere say that merits the attention of the august Financial Times?

Whatever compelled the FT to send Ms. Scaggs to Texas, I would like to wholeheartedly thank them for their coverage, and for what Ms. Scaggs has said about my presentation: “Breaking the Alternative Media’s Dependence on the Mainstream Media.” Here is Ms. Scagg’s Part 2 commentary:

Where it went wrong: Gore said that outlets like ZeroHedge face “one infinitesimal risk — the establishment is not as corrupt as we think it is.” The establishment is not as corrupt as he thinks it is.

And that was that: a 45 minute presentation dismissed with two sentences. I invite interested readers who haven’t already done so to read the speech, which is linked above, and form their own opinions.

The mainstream media has been slow to grasp that it helped Donald Trump get elected. The MSM is neither liked, respected, nor trusted, one of the points of my presentation. When it besmirched Trump, it pushed some who were uncommitted his way and solidified in-group solidarity among his supporters. Trump basked in the attention and reveled in reviling the media…to great effect.

You know you’ve hit a nerve when the other side won’t listen to you, tries to shout you down, or calls you names. “Conspiracy theories” is a stop-the-argument-before-it-begins pejorative. As a reporter for the FT, Ms. Scaggs represents both top-drawer establishment and the elite of the MSM. My criticisms hit a nerve, I would guess both professionally and personally. It’s not as if they were not solidly supported by ample facts and history, and Ms. Scaggs knows it.

However, I do want to thank Ms. Scaggs once again. The graph of SLL readership since 2014 has been from lower left to upper right (up 18 percent this year). Just as the MSM’s criticisms of Trump increased his support, her commentary will almost certainly steepen the upward slope of SLL’s readership graph (and consequently ad revenues). SLL will be getting mileage out of this one for months.

It’s a shame that the only thing Ms. Scaggs took away from the fine Zero Hedge symposium was the cowgirl boots she purchased for the occasion.

I attended the conference that is the topic of this article, and made a presentation on “Breaking the Alternative Media’s Dependence on the Mainstream Media.” Soon I will release the text of that presentation, probably in parts since it was about a 45-minute speech. It was a great conference, and Hedgeless Horseman and Zero Hedge deserve a world of credit for hosting it. From Hedgeless at zerohedge.com:

I am still trying to interpret and integrate all that I experienced and learned about disintermediation, about myself, and about y’all at last week’s First ZeroHedge Symposium and Live Fight Club in Marfa, Texas. I hope that writing this after-action report will help me to better assimilate it.

Last Wednesday, I picked up the aquaponics speaker, Tim, upon his arrival from Hawaii at the airport.  My family and I got to know him well during our short 10.5 hour drive out to Marfa, and over the course of the next 6 days.  We now grok the differences between aquaponics and hydroponics, and the similarities between our two families.

For us, staying in the tepees, tents, and vintage aluminum trailers at El Cosmico proved to be a very good choice.  ZeroHedgers arrived and immediately coalesced around the open-air showers and community kitchens.  Usually the question of, “Are you here for the symposium?” was answered with a yes, a big smile, an offer of a beer or mescal, and an introduction such as, “Hello, I am hedgeless_horseman.”

Some of us had come a day early to tour the art at the Chinati Foundation.  I had very high expectations based on the reading I had done, and they were exceeded.  It was sublime to experience Donald Judd’s 100 untitled works in milled aluminum, in that particular light, architecture, and environment.  Another favorite was Robert Irwin’s relatively new permanent installation where we literally moved out of the darkness and into the light.  The full-day tour served as the perfect appetizer to clear, open, and prepare my mind for the three-day symposium.

Thursday afternoon, I learned from our gracious hosts in Marfa that a few special snowflakes, which had only recently fallen in this hot and dry desert, had started a petition for the city to ban us from holding the symposium in “their” town. I asked what the perceived problem was, and was told that they were afraid we were violent and white supremacists.  We all laughed, especially the non-whites and pacifists.  Someone asked if the special snow flakes were able to read the list of speakers and topics.  Apparently not.  However, I immediately suspected that their concerns and petition were just another clear case of FEAR, False Evidence Appearing Real.  This was confirmed when I agreed to be interviewed by one of them, a young woman from New York, who also claimed to be a freelance journalist.
