Victor Davis Hanson: Who Denies Election Results?

The Democrats have cast aspersions on far more elections than the Republicans have, but nobody calls them “election deniers”. From Victor Davis Hanson at zerohedge.com:

A Democratic myth has arisen that former President Donald Trump’s denial of the accuracy of the 2020 vote was “unprecedented.”

Unfortunately, the history of U.S. elections is often a story of both legitimate and illegitimate election denialism.

The 1800, 1824, 1876, and 1960 elections were all understandably questioned.

In some of these cases, a partisan House of Representatives decided the winner.

Presidential candidate Al Gore in 2000 did not accept the popular vote results in Florida. He spent five weeks futilely contesting the state’s tally – until recounts and the Supreme Court certified it.

The ensuing charge that former President George W. Bush was “selected not elected” was the Democrats’ denialist mantra for years.

In 2004, Senator Barbara Boxer, D-Calif. and 31 Democratic House members voted not to certify the Ohio election results in their unhinged efforts to overturn the election.

Those denialists included the current sanctimonious chairman of the January 6 select committee, U.S. Representative Benny Thompson, D-Miss.

Democratic Party Moved From Uncomfortable To Intolerable For Members: #WalkAway Founder, by Beth Brelje

While Democrat voters have been leaving the party for years, their reasons have become more urgent.

“When people were feeling pushed away years ago, to the point where they were starting to walk away, there was more of a casual tone about it,” former liberal Democrat Brandon Straka, founder of #WalkAway told The Epoch Times.

“People were beginning to feel the effects of leftist, communism, Marxism infiltration into our society, our culture, and our politics.”

Straka founded #WalkAway in 2018 after making his personal decision to leave the party public while inviting others to join him. Since then, thousands of exiting Democrats made social media videos explaining why they were choosing to #WalkAway, giving Straka a window into the minds of these voters.

At that time, people were just noticing changes in the party, he said. They weren’t always identifying what it meant, but they knew they didn’t like how it felt, and quietly left.

In Overheated Economy, Dems Forced To Cool Climate Messaging, by Susan Crabtree

Rising energy prices are putting a damper on people’s enthusiasm for more expensive green energy. From Susan Crabtree at realclearwire.com:

Eric Sorensen, a Democrat running for an open seat in a northwest Illinois congressional district that Donald Trump narrowly won twice, concluded recently that his campaign website’s top issues section needed a major reshuffling.

A section entitled “Addressing Climate Change,” which was initially leading the page, was relegated to the no. 4 spot, according to a comparison of the archived version of the website. The revamped website’s top two sections were new: “Addressing Rising Costs” and “Securing Reproductive Rights.”

Sorensen’s re-tooled website reflects the purple nature of his district and the shifting realities of the 2022 midterms as candidates head into the final stretch. Democrats are facing severe headwinds when it comes to the economy and inflation, and they can’t afford to dodge the issue or ignore the pain it’s causing many low- and middle-income Americans.

At the same time, Democrats still hope that opposition to the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturning federal abortion protections continues to resonate enough to hand them wins in tight races around the country.

In unpredictable, ultra-competitive races like Sorensen’s, Democrats are deliberating over every move in the final weeks. The race for the seat held by retiring Democratic Rep. Cheri Bustos pits Sorensen against Republican Esther Joy King, a U.S. Army JAG officer reservist running a campaign focused on combating inflation.

Case in point: a shop teacher styling himself as “Kayla” Lemieux, comes to work wearing a grotesquely outsized fake boob costume. You are meant to say that this is okay because, hey, it is just a form of “gender expression” — so said the Halton District school board in Ontario, Canada. Of course, you know it’s not okay. The School Board only pretends that it’s okay, because this nonsense is supported by the Canadian federal government under the Woke-Marxist Justin Trudeau, which holds the levers of law and can crush you, subject you to its courts, bankrupt you, ruin you, if you don’t play along.

It is disheartening how many people are pinning their hopes on the next two elections. We still don’t know exactly how the last one was stolen—the thieves were never charged, evidence was never presented, there was no discovery, cross-examination, or verdict in a court of law—but stolen it was. Yet, many believe Lucy won’t pull the football away this time.

In 2020, no one showed up for Joe and Kamala’s appearances while Trump was pulling them in by the tens of thousands. Trump got more votes than any sitting president had ever received, but Biden supposedly beat him by 7 million votes. There were myriad inconsistencies and irregularities, many connected with procedures concocted to deal with the overhyped Covid threat. However, the election was pronounced free and fair, January 6 protestors were arrested and jailed, Trump relinquished the presidency, and that was that, a bipartisan-endorsed end of story.

Everything the Democrats have done since Biden halted the Keystone XL pipeline on inauguration day seems designed to lose votes, and the polls register fading support. Yet, the Democrats are acting as if they have this year’s elections in the bag, just as they did in 2020.

Politicians interested in winning legitimate elections don’t appropriate $80 billion three months before the election to hire 87,0000 new IRS agents, some of whom will be armed, to harass tax-paying voters. They don’t conduct a raid on the home of their hated opponent, handing him an issue which solidifies his support. They don’t engage in a Quixotic proxy war on the doorstep of a nuclear power. Their nominal leader doesn’t disparage half the population in a creepy, neo-Nazi setting and speech. Is it because the vote doesn’t matter, only, per Joseph Stalin, who counts the votes?

Margot Cleveland, law professor and former law clerk for a quarter century for a Federal Appeals Court judge, writing in The Federalist points out that Trump-appointed FBI director Christopher Wray has shown his totalitarian character by equating legitimate criticism of the FBI’s Gestapo behavior for invading the home of President Trump with an attack by Trump supporters on law and order. Not only was the invasion gratuitous, it was done for the sole purpose of creating the impression that President Trump is a felon, as was the FBI’s seizure of Trump’s passport to prevent his flight from “justice.” America now has a Federal Bureau of Investigation that is a Ministry of the Interior Gestapo serving a dictatorial political movement.

Cleveland puts it this way:

“FBI Director Christopher Wray’s Thursday statement represents a disgraceful attempt to silence critics by conflating condemnation of the bureau’s conduct with violence and threats against law enforcement. Some Heroes You Got There! By Raúl Ilargi Meijer

You are in trouble when your heroes are people like Robert Mueller, Adam Schiff, and Anthony Fauci. From Raúl Ilargi Meijer theautomaticearth.com:

We associate the term “mass psychosis” with the reaction(s) to Covid, but I would argue it’s been around a lot longer, and broader. At least since 2015, and the media coverage (if you can even call it that) of Donald Trump, his campaign and his presidency. I have no special sympathy for Trump (though some people doubt that), but that episode, and the “coverage” of it, did wake me up -even more- to how the media -and US “intelligence”, and Trump’s various opponents- influenced the way they wanted people to think.

And perhaps the best way to illustrate this is the “heroes” they have been promoting ever since. It’s not just Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden during the “Trump days”, this model is still used to date. They make people like, and thereby trust, certain characters, and we’re off to the races. One thing that sticks out is how in the cases of Trump-Russia, Covid, and Ukraine-Russia, there are these personae that were getting adorned with celebratory candles and stuff like that.

The first person we saw that with was Robert Mueller. He did a 2-year “investigation”, which resulted in absolutely nothing -other than some vague allegations he had no proof of either-, and which he should have halted at least a year before he did, something nobody ever called him on. At his “closing” testimony he even claimed he had never heard of Fusion GPS, one of the key components in his own “investigation”, so we wondered if he ever had any control of this probe, or if it were perhaps Andrew Weizmann and the other 40-odd lawyers, paid god knows how many millions, and had god knows what other resources.

Why Don’t They Care?, by Eric Peters

The Democrats are remarkably insouciant about the mid-term elections. Maybe they know something that we don’t. It seems so much like 2020, and we know what happened then. From Eric Peters at ericpetersautos.com:

It is said that the Thing shuffling up to the podium to rail against the Second Amendment and that attempts to read the script blaming Putin for the effects of his “executive orders” on energy (and so, food) prices via the closing down of gas pipelines is out of touch, because he is no longer fully aware. There is more than just the obvious evidence this may be so. There is the fact that he is nearly 80 years old and that is several years older than the age at which most people are no longer alive – and a majority of the rest are in rest homes.

Those of Boomer age want to be eternally 28 – and think of themselves that way. But almost 80 isn’t the new 40. Or 60, for that matter.

But what may matter more is that Joe doesn’t care – about the politically disastrous unpopularity of his policies – and neither, apparently, do those gently directing his gate-ataxia’ing path to and from the podium.

This is interesting given a major election is now only months away. An election that – if even remotely un-fixed – is likely to douche away whatever remains of the Thing’s political support insofar as Congress is concerned. And that ought to be concerning to those in Congress who have banked their futures in politics on not losing elections.

Yet none of them seem to be particularly worried that they are about to be douched out of Congress. That the Thing could shortly become an impotent laughingstock whose memory will cause people to forget anything they ever thought funny about the Carter years.

Democrats and Republicans Have One Thing in Common: Both Suck on Free Speech, by Matt Taibbi

Censorship is one of many things both parties agree on. The only difference is who they think should be censored. From Matt Taibbi at taibbi.substack.com:

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, or FIRE, announced a major, $75 million campaign to boost free expression today. The move places the longtime agitator against campus speech codes in a role historically occupied by the American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU. Since its founding 1920, but particularly since its famed 1976 defense of neo-Nazi marchers in Skokie, Illinois, the ACLU has been a face of American liberalism, but shifted in recent years as its once-definitional issue, free speech, is increasingly cast out of the Democratic Party mainstream.

FIRE’s expansion is great news for speech advocates, but likely wouldn’t have been necessary had attitudes toward speech not changed dramatically among liberal academics and among the ACLU’s primary donors, traditional Democrats. Moreover it’s not as simple as free speech moving now from being a blue value to a red one. What’s actually happened is far worse: tossed overboard by the blues, speech has been left without a consistent, principled champion on either side of the political aisle, as both parties have doubled or tripled down on the most idiotic forms of censorship lately, albeit in different ways.
